Mullins and Mountkastle can follow Hays out the door.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Should look to move Kimbrel, although I don't know who would want him. He has all the look of a great veteran who has lost it. Time to say goodbye, take your accolades and move on. Before you embarrass yourself further.

Maybe you can package Kimbrel in the trade for a new closer. I don't follow the other teams as much, however, if you trade for the closer of a team that is a fringe WC contender you can include Kimbrel in the trade with a couple of prospects. He's had enough success that he could close for one of these teams

I know it's a SSS, but a blown save followed by losing a game should send off an alarm. I don't think the Orioles have his replacement on the roster right now. I don't hate Kimbrel, but He's tough to trust. Too many first batter walks and his inability to hold runners cause lot of stress to the defense. I just think He should be the closer for a contending team right now.

We've been through this before with Kimbrel.  He'll eventually go back to being effective.  The problem with this team, regardless of where they are ranked, is the offense.  I honestly can't see them ripping off a 7 or 8 game winning streak for the simple reason they can't sustain any offensive consistency.  They're just not putting enough men on base and when they do, the RISP efficiency has been lousy. They don't work counts; they continually insist on swinging at the first pitch even when several runs behind and while plate discipline throughout the sport is horrible, the Orioles have been especially bad over the past month.  Kind of amazing they've been able to play .500.  I think that's a testament to their talent level.  And it's been pretty sobering to watch Adley flailing away for several weeks. Having that kind of a hole at the No. 2 slot, has been a major problem.  Everyone's always talking about Gunnar being tired but maybe it's time to give Adley a couple of days off.  The good news is that even if they continue to be a .500 team the rest of the way, they'll still probably make the playoffs.  Not a particularly uplifting perspective but at this point, it's hard to think otherwise.

I hope Mountcastle is OK.  He hasn't been hitting at all, and then at the end of last night's game, he kind of lost the ability to catch the ball.

True but he's been better than Rutschman for the month of July. That's how bad Adleys been. At least Hyde moved Mounty down in the order. Why is Adley still hitting second?

Why did they pitch to Profar with the game tied? He's having some kind of Ted Williams anomaly season, and he's the only guy in the line up that was hitting.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Not trying to defend Hyde, but shouldn't Elias have known that Kimbrel was incapable of handling a typical closer's workload for a team trying to win? You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit 162 times.

Cano was the other option, but the Padres had three lefties coming up in the ninth, and Cano is more effective against righties.

Um… yeah.

I don't want to belabor this too much given the surrounding emotion, but the batting average on that pitch would be terrible.  You have to throw it over the plate.  That ball was actually like an inch off the outside edge.  If Profar flies out to CF, "it looks like Kimbrel shook off the other night", but that guy has an anomaly result (and that sucks) and everyone melts down.

The hit by Campusano was a good pitch, 2-strike slider running away and the odds on pulling that to LF for a hit are low (at best).

He got beat on 2 good pitches. We aren't allowed to say that because he gave up 2 runs and we lost, because everyone has to melt down.

The other team is throwing pitching in the middle of the plate and we don't seem to be able to hit too manty of them.  Baseball is hard. The other team gets a vote.  Nobody is owed anything.  Holmes blew his 7th save last night and the Yankees lost again.  The Orioles need to play better as a team.  Earn today, every day.

Apologies for interrupting the regularly scheduled hysteria.

Batter's job is to hit the ball.

Pitchers job is to not let batters hit the ball.

One did their job and one did not.

8 R, 6 H (2 HR) and 5 BB in his last 4 appearances. I think he's had some bad luck, but also a lot of self inflicted damage. He's not fine right now, but optimistic he can get back to pitching well. Still would prefer a trade for another closer like Scott, Estevez or Fairbanks.

The ball wasn’t that far outside and there’s a lot more than location that goes into whether or not a pitch is good or not.

Yeah it was an elevated fastball. A little outside but batters can lean over the plate because we tend not to pitch inside for some reason.
