For the right price, he is worth it...no doubt.

Lance, do you think every player is going to sign a 1 year deal for 8-10 million?
For the right price, he is worth it...no doubt.
If that's all they're worth - yes.
I know I'd sign a 1 year deal worth between $8 and $10 million.

I don't believe Marcum gets 8-10mil after his injury riddled season.
I would love to have him. He isn't a 1, but a solid 2 to go along with Hammel.

I love Marcum's makeup, stuff, and his proven ability in the AL East. I wish he could master the art of staying healthy.

I think if a team signs him to an incentive laden contract, he could potentially earn upwards of that if he's healthy all season long.
He could also top out at around $5 or $6 million too. I may have been a bit generous when doing my valuation of him.

Insane to give him that much money.I thought it was interesting that Scott Baker just got $5.5MM base salary with $1.5MM in incentives. That is coming off Tommy John Surgery. Marcum has had his share of injuries, so I am very curious to see what ends up getting.
He is a great guy to take a chance on...but for 5.5M base? stupid.
Not as dumb as the Affedlt contract, which may easily be the worst contract given out this offseason but still, pretty bad.

That is how the market works. One team offers him $2.5 base with incentives, he shops that to the next team that offers him 3.5 with less incentives, then shops that to another and so on.
The market bares what it will bare, no amount of deciding what is fair for a certain player is ever going to determine actual contracts. Especially when you factor in teams that have money to spend, teams that are trying to send a message to fans, and teams that just really like certain players more than they should.

I would definitely be interested in Marcum, but someone is going to give him a multi-year deal for big money. I don't see us going too high for him.
I think the most he would get from a team is a one year deal with a second year option. Some team may give him a second year based on certain requirements being met, thus causing that option year to become guaranteed (much like Betemit's deal with us).

If we can get him with a one-year deal with an option based on starts, I'd be all for it.

Marcum has always been a guy I hoped the Orioles would get.
That said, it is clear we are on a tight budget, and IMO, we can not tie up 8 million for a guy like Marcum who could wind up pitching 25 innings next year. We can not gamble that much.
BTW, He has been damaged ggods for awhile. He might not get anywhere near 8-10.

Stupid me, I asked what was wrong with him after you'd explained all that... I guess that's what the link is for, huh?
Man, he sure seems to have had a lot of stuff go wrong with him. Every basic P-part so far, including 2 different things last year, with only the TJ thing being what you might call a solution. Why would anybody think that's all in the past? Now that he's 31, he's gonna be healthier?
After TJ he has been good when he can pitch. Do we know of examples of guys with histories somewhat like his: missed 2 years, then 2 good years back, then a season with multiple injuries, then...reliably good again?

He's got something going on with his shoulder right now too. Just not a guy I would bet millions on staying healthy.Stupid me, I asked what was wrong with him after you'd explained all that... I guess that's what the link is for, huh?

There have been a few guys who did next to nothing(or nothing) this offseason that signed 1/5 type deals coming off of injuries. At this point in the off-season, what type of contract do you expect Marcum to sign?
Marcum was able to pitch at the end of the year and he was effective.
I don't expect him to get more than 1 year but something in the 5.5-8M range(with incentives added on) sounds about right.
I like Marcum and would like to get him but trading for Porcello makes more sense to me.
