Watched the second half of Brazil vs Costa Rica after the O's game. Holy smokes just crazy intense for a game with no score. Brazil did everything they could to find the back of the net but CR was just stout as heck on defense. Stayed compact and organized and when Brazil did get a good look at the goal the CR keeper was up to the task plus the post....lol.

 

Probably won't change the overall outcome of that group. Still expect Brazil and Colombia to advance but pretty crazy result last night.

Euro Group D was a bit of a shocker. Austria wins the group, France takes 2nd, and the Dutch 3rd. But as predicted all three advance albeit not in the order anybody guessed.

Group C done. England wins and Denmark takes second as projected. Slovenia takes one of the 3rd place slots. But man talk about defensive play. Both matches went 0-0. Kind of what happens when you have these odd ball number of groups and 3rd place teams can advance. In this case the only team really working hard to win was Serbia as they had to get a W to advance. The other 3 sides all knew they'd advance with draws which is just what happened.

Also want to point out how hard it is to score goals in tournaments. Look at France in their group play. Yeah France, the #2 team in the world with THE best player in the world in Kylian Mbappe.

 

First match they win 1-0 on an own goal.

Second match they draw 0-0.

Third match they draw 1-1 and their goal was a PK.

 

So they scored 2 goals in 3 matches and only one of those was them scoring and ZERO goals from the run of play.

I need to do a better job researching what teams actually have something to play for going into these matches.

Pedro man you should have asked me. I'd be happy to give you free thoughts. In tournament play if your going to gamble then knowing the overall circumstances are critical. Now the good news is that once you get to the knockout stages things change a lot. But you still have to pay attention. Lesser teams that have a great keeper at stopping penalties may well play for a 0-0 draw figuring their best chance is to get to penalties. Good luck.

Impressive work from Georgia to advance to the knockout rounds in their first-ever Euros with a 2-0 win over Portugal. As a Watford supporter, it'll be great to see more of Giorgi Chakvetadze on a big stage. With Scotland and Ryan Porteous eliminated, he's our club's lone remaining Euros representative.

Crazy, flying last night to get down to my gulf home to see Mexico lost. Freaking gifted an easy shot to the semi's and they might choke it away......LOL

Ugly loss for the USA, played with ten men for most of the match. Now likely need to beat Uruguay on Monday night in order to advance.

Failing to get through a group with Bolivia and Panama would be an enormous failure.

Well before you get too down on the US.....we had almost 1/2 Xg higher than Panama did playing a man down.

But be pissed as hell at Weah. Cost us the tourney. Problem is even if we beat Uruguay which they well could do Panama could jump ahead on goal differential as they play Bolivia which will have already been eliminated.

Playing smart and under control is just as much a part of the game as talent and strategy. So yeah, when they can't seem to ever put all those things together, you're just never going to have very high expectations for them.

Great news….Uruguay only beat Bolivia 5-0. That means the US only needs to win by 7 goals against Uruguay to advance. Woohoo!

That's not quite correct. They need to beat Uruguay. But they could advance beating them 1-0. Depends on Panama beating Bolivia be less than 3. First tie breaker is goal differential and right now US is plus 1 and Panama is minus 1.
