The pace for RP, and position players, will come down eventually because it has to. I don't think frequent usage now will be a negative for Cano or Coulombe later in the season. I do have that concern about Kimbrel.

I think batters faced (or pitch count) scales pretty linearly. Facing 1 guy is a lot less effort than facing 4 or 5. Cano will be available tonight and maybe even a third day in a row if tonight's outing is brief. If he pitched 1.2 innings last night, he likey isn't available today and certainly wouldn't be available three in a row.

Right, I mentioned this as a possible (likely) strategy and Wile E fell out of his chair.

They are doing this often enough that we should assume it completely intentional.

Don't keep warming guys up.  If you are throwing the extra inning and the next guy is still warming up waiting then they both are pitching but only one is logging innings, but the use is similar.

Warm up, come in the game, minimize work, be available more often.

We'll see if it works over the course of a longer season.  I'm not judging it.  But it's clearly intentional and that's above Hyde.

Its great getting what you can from Irvin now. Hurt feelings aside, because thats what this back and forth has become for some, his stuff isnt very good. He doesnt K guys. His savant page has a lot of blue. But you ride the crap out of the good fortune while you can. Maybe he can do this for 2 more months and be the Tyler Wells of '24.

No hurt feelings here pal. Just some good old-fashioned ribbing.

I don't think Irvin isn't as bad as you say, just like I don't think Kremer is as bad as you say.  I don't believe either of them are great but I do believe you've underrated them. You're going to hear from me when they pitch well and I am sure I'll hear from you when they don't.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I don't think it'll work and I don't think they'll even try it over the course of a longer season.  The pace as-is is, even if they use some outings for just one out, is just an early season oddity.  They won't attempt to get Cano or Coulombe get to 80 appearances.  I'd expect 70ish for Cano and 65ish for Coulombe.  Last year they pitched in 72 and 61 games, respectively.  Last year Cano made 19 appearances in his first 37 days on the roster, so he's being used less often now (16 in 37) than he was early last season.  Last year Coulombe made 15 appearances in his first 37 days on the roster, so he's at basically the same pace (16 in 37 days).

Two off days next week, then only three through all of June.  I think we see the usage rates drop a lot over that long stretch with limited days off.

Yeah, I don't think the current 162 game pace matters all that much* given the early season off days, and I think they will slow guys down as those off days start to get rarer.

*in a vacuum at least, if guys are showing wear like Kimbrel was then slow down obviously.

I understand what you're saying....but you are layering a more traditional perspective of appearances against this different use (but minimal pitches) approach.  If everyone (all the Teams were doing this) you'd see appearance rates go up everywhere.

I'm not arguing for or against it.  It very much appears to be what they are doing.  Maybe it keeps guys fresher over the course of the season....I'd guess that's the rationale.  I'm not voting...it doesn't matter to me...if it works it works, if it doesn't, they'll do something else.
