Earl Weaver famously hated throwing at opposing hitters. His theory was that his players were better, so if a beanball war led to injuries or ejections, it would probably hurt the O's more than the other team.

You will rarely see anyone thrown at for pimping a homer, or taking an extra base in blowout anymore because it's a pointless exercise that generally only impacts the pitcher

Just about everyone on every team celebrates a base hit, much less a home run. ( See the Orioles with the sprinklers.) Further, I don't believe anyone should or should have ever been thrown at for something as trivial as stealing a base with an 8 run lead. People should play hard all the time.

You'll only see retaliation in this era if the opposition thinks that someone was trying to hurt someone intentionally. ( Ex. Machado sliding into Pedroia) Instead of plunking Soto, strike him out and stare at him while he sulks to the bench.

It was funny hearing a Yankee fan born this century bragging about their 27 championships to deflect from the L last night.

They still wearing those stupid shirts that brag about all those rings? I didn't know that Lou Gehrig had those World Series rings.

Oh my God, the amount of Yankee fans bitching and moaning about the great wall of Baltimore is absolutely nauseating! What a freaking bunch of crybabies.

Yankees and their fans seem to be the only ones still complaining about it.  Last year's Sunday night game against the Yankees had the ESPN crew whining for 3 hours about it.

Where's the ghost of Bob Gibson when you need him. I still think Soto should be drilled.

What I don't get is Soto apparently acknowledged to Kremer that the previous pitch had bested him. Kevin Brown even mentioned something about that, and he noted that Soto plays the game with a certain level of respect. Which of course Soto made that observation age about as well as a fart in a phone booth when he took a perceived transgression from the pitcher into a personal vendetta as he rounded the bases. It's a shame, really, cuz that was a monster shot.

Not to get all Abe Simpson, but just shut up and round the bases.

What did Kremer do that upset him?  I still haven't figured that one out.

I honestly have no idea. Kremer looks intense when he pitches, and my guess is Soto took personally whatever 'look-ins' Kremer was engaging. Of course, it could be a potted plant at the plate and you'd get the same looks from Kremer. So yeah, Soto was probably having conversations in his head and his second outward reaction was the stare-down(s), the first being the apparent hat-tip on a great pitch that Soto swung through.

Soto claimed it was because Kremer said he didn't like his shuffle.

Look up the "Soto shuffle". Will make him even more plunkable.
