Why?
He threw a perfect change, and perfect slider to get ahead of Judge...then got him to chase another change.
Because getting behind good hitters who are making consistent contact is a great way to get shelled. He is lucky the damage so far has been limited.

I am getting annoyed with the continuing swings at first pitches to make weak outs.
Get used to it. This team has zero interest in working counts and drawing walks. Even Adley doesn't even bother anymore. I guess you can't argue with the results considering they're one of the highest scoring teams in baseball but I certainly understand your irritation.

Except he hasn't been shelled.
Without his best stuff or great control, he has made it work tonight against a highly patient lineup.

The Oriole offense started off great but they've looked horrible since. Clarke "Cy Young" Schmidt.

That's why I'm saying he's been lucky. Their babip is extremely low tonight. You can't expect that to be the norm.Except he hasn't been shelled.

If he's going to excel in the big leagues he can't keep falling behind and then needing to make perfect pitches. I'm not saying he's bad. I'm saying that if you played this game 100 times with him throwing the same ball-strike ratio and with this little swing and miss, more often than not he wouldn't make it past the 4th. That has to improve.

But you arent always going to have your best stuff or control and you have to find ways to compete anyway. Which is what he has done.
