The announcers were describing that something wasn't right with Kimbrel during the walk to the first batter of the inning. Hyde, the pitching coach, and a trainer came out to check on him after the walk.
My son said " Why are they leaving him in the game if He might be injured?" (The announcers described Kimbrel throwing a couple of warm up pitches during the visit.) Kimbrel then proceeded to give up a two run, go ahead homer to the # 9 hitter.
I'm not a Hyde hater, but this loss is on his shoulders. He blew an opportunity to take Kimbrel out and allow Tate as many warm up pitches as he needed in that situation. If Kimbrel talked his way into staying in the game, that's still on Hyde. Sometimes you have to protect your players from themselves.

Never liked the Kimbrel signing. Being validated for that doubt and worry about the bullpen so far.
He was lights out until the Angels series. I think thats when the back started acting up on him. I'm not sure if he threw a single breaking ball yesterday. Thats completely on Hyde to not read the situation and get him out of there no matter what he says to you.
I'm still mostly positive on Hyde, bullpen management issues can be fixed. But would love to see him show some spirit when it comes to bad calls from umpires and I agree he doesn't have the best gut calls.

They still took Kimbrel out for an injury after that 2nd batter, which otherwise you can't do. Definitely on Hyde and trainers to not yank him after the walk. Be in charge, don't just let a player telling you he's ok be the deciding factor.I'll preface my post by saying that I did not watch the game. However, my son and I were listening to the last few innings while driving home.

Possibly, but where in this case do you think the game theory comes from?
I think he must have little data cards.
Oh its a left handed batter got to put in a left handed pitcher.
Oh its the 9th inning have to put on the closer.
Seriously he manages like all he has is level one statistics. His thinking is just so shallow. We've seen these types of moves for the last year plus. How can he possibly go out to the mound and talk to a pitcher who was hot garbage on Friday. Walks the first batter yesterday and doesn;t look right. Yet leaves him out there. Game over. Just inexcusable.
Metrics are great and absolutely an important aspect of sports today. But the eye test still offers some real value. Use it.

Yeah, that makes even more of a head scratcher.

Upper back tightness could linger for a few days. Don't know how you don't IL him just to get a fresh arm here.
Or to make sure he doesn't screw up any more wins.
Maybe a 60 day IL. Wanna make sure he's healthy!

I'd strongly consider an IL trip as well. 15 days may be more than he needs but he's way out of whack right now. If they don't think there is a chiropractor or quick acting anti-inflammatory than can work instant magic, should give him the time to get himself right and hopefully get back to pitching very effectively rather than what he's done the past half week to week.

Seems like a reasonable approach.
