Those early ratings are one of the dumber things that every single outlet puts out every year. The portal hasn't even closed yet, rosters are nowhere close to being finalized.

Virginia head coach Tony Bennett is reportedly retiring, effective immediately. Just weeks before the 2024-25 season begins.
EDIT: Virginia has officially confirmed this news, and will be holding a press conference tomorrow morning.

So maybe MD's upcoming 4-game series with UVA won't be such a snooze fest after all.

Apparently not health related, guess he just hates the NIL and the transfer portal.
Had no idea he was the NCAA all-time 3-point leader when he graduated and played 3 years in the NBA.

He’s not the first to leave coaching for that reason, but crappy thing on his part to retire just a couple weeks before the season starts. While the players do get a 30 day window to enter the portal, few if any are going to find a new school at this point. Since it’s the middle of a semester the best they could hope for is to find somewhere they could play once spring semester starts, but it seems unlikely. It almost seems like Bennett’s timing was intended to spite the players, which seems out of character for someone who generally has been one of the classiest people in the sport.

While I still don't like the timing of Bennett's decision, he at least understands the situation and what the most fair and pragmatic solution is.
https://www.nytimes....on-sanchez-uva/
...there needs to be change.
“It’s going to be closer to a professional model. … There’s got to be collective bargaining. There has to be a restriction on the salary pool that teams can spend. There has to be transfer regulation restrictions. There has to be some limits on the agent involvement to these young guys. And there are good agents, and there are bad agents, and they’re driving some of this stuff that we’re in.”
Unlike the NCAA, who in its press release following Bennett's remarks indicated they still think the only solution is to keep begging Congress for an antitrust exemption, that they will never get, so they can go back to the old way of doing things.
