Buck Showalter
You’ve got to understand the fan base. ....Just be sincere and be open about it. Let the fans see that you care as much about them being good as they do because nobody cares more about their team than Oriole fans. They just want you to put a product on the field that they can trust.
Unsurprisingly, Buck hits the most important nail on the head. Baseball is a Public Trust. Just be passionate about running the Organization well and commit to the short term and long term opportunity to win. Know how you want to win. Allow creativity and be dynamic. Leverage money when you can. It's only a business because money changes hands. Respect the emotional investment that the fanbase has for the product that you haven't earned. It's just there...that's the history from generation to generation.
PGA wanted to do things his way, run by some bizarre inner circle consensus and allow external things to drive outcomes, avoiding accountability. Don't be petty and insecure when it comes to the Baseball Team.
You're never going to make everyone happy so don't worry about that. Have an integrated plan that includes marketing of the Team. Find and keep good people. Let them do their job. Back them up when things don't go right. In theory, every team is trying to win so the expectation that you can rip of a Championship every year even if you are the absolute best and do everything right is a fallacy...but it should be obvious that's what you're trying to do.
