Rumor has it that he'd take a 2-year, $60 million contract if he could opt out after 2024. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of Irvin and Kremer as starting pitchers along w/Wells, who may peter out. Neither am I sure that Bradish will come back as a strong No. 2, or even that he'll come back. And just how good will Means be even if he returns?

Too many questions about this rotation.Too many for a team that wants to win THIS year. And I don't like the idea of a desperation 2-month Trade Deadline rental for half of our farm system or making another horrible trade like they did last year, mid-season.

In other words, I'd take the Snell deal.

They have the money. DO IT!

Zero chance he signs a deal where the Orioles can also opt out, so you'd have to guarantee him 2/$60M probably frontloaded, so $35M in 2024 then a $25M player option for 2025.  And you can't make a qualifying offer to recoup a draft pick since he received one this year.  He'd cost the O's their 1st round pick.

I'd rather sign Montgomery.  But I'd certainly say yes if that's a deal Snell will take, draft picks are valuable but I'd trade it for Snell and the money is just money, can't really save it for the future.  I doubt that even the new ownership goes for it.  Especially since you're going to lose the first month or so of the one year he'd be here.

I'd consider 3/$90 with a player option after '25 with Snell, but yeah, I'd rather they just workout a deal for Montgomery.

I deleted the O's opt-out. It wouldn't happen.

I'd go for the deal as he proposes it. I don't like the Orioles rotation as is, and their contingencies are too iffy..

From the way it's been reported, that 2 year with an opt out was presented to the Astros, not just a deal he'd take from anyone. I guess we know which team Blake feels will give him the best chance for a ring

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I can understand your concern for the rotation. But I have to believe the FO is confident in what they have, or they wouldn't have burned trade chips to add Burnes for 1 season. It would be really odd to get a TOR pitcher and then just hope the rest of the rotation works itself out. But like others have said, I'd also be stoked to see Montgomery suit up for Baltimore.

The Giants' rotation now contains the No. 1 and No. 2 finishers in the 2023 NL Cy Young voting. Not bad.

I think in the Orioles case signing a qualified free agent would have only cost them their third-highest pick since they received revenue sharing in 2023. There are a number of teams that fall into this category. They also would not have been required to forfeit any international bonus money.

I'd still rather have Montgomery at this point (won't happen) since, as an unqualified free agent, he wouldn't cost anything more than a year's salary should he receive and exercise any opt-out clauses in his contract.

Did they know the extent of Bradish's and Means' problems though?

The Giants have made this thread moot, it appears.

Everything being reported on Means, says he's just behind schedule. There's no reporting of any physical issues. Bradish is the wild card, because we just don't know what will happen. He's progressing well, so that good. But something could pop tomorrow, and he'll be off for surgery. Not having him for however long it takes him (a couple of months?) will be tough. But looking at the bright side, he'll still have a lot of life in his arm in Oct.

Glad Snell isn't an Oriole.

Laughing that he's paying CA State Tax.
