Well, I guess the Ravens like him.

4/98, 53m gtd at sign.

Wow, massive deal. Good for Justin, glad he’ll be around a while.

I'm sure this will get us some immediate cap relief, too.

Hopefully 2023 wasn't a fluke! He flashed the past but never put it all together.

Sweet! If they're confident he's the game wrecker he was this season moving forward, that's enough for me.

Assuming we structured it for max cap space, and his first year payment is the same as the tag, he will be about 5.5 million against the cap year 1.  Assuming year 2 is also an option bonus year, his cap number year 2 will be 10.5m against the cap.  Years 3 and 4 will be painful and will need a restructure.

Like the move. Interior DL that can consistently do what he does are rare. Washington, Pierce, Jones and Madubuike give the Ravens a solid line rotation.

That's my concern.

https://www.nbcsport...-madubuike-deal

6m base and 25m signing first year

2nd year 15m option bonus and 7.6m base

3rd year 22m base, gtd for injury and becomes fully guaranteed at the beginning of 2025.

4th year 22.5m (4m roster bonus 18,5m base)

This deal is much larger than what I would have been willing to pay him.  He's almost uncuttable until the end of 2026.

That number seems awfully low, especially when you consider that the $75.5 million in guarantees fully vests by March of 2025. I was listening to Brian McFarland tonight on The Fan and he was talking a cap number of around $11.5 million or so for 2024, which still saves the Ravens some $11 million against this year's cap. With a $6 million fully guaranteed salary for 2024, that would mean a proration of the $25 million signing bonus for about $5.5 million, or a total of $11.5 million against the cap next season.

It's only a four-year deal, and unless the Ravens add a void year at some point, that's not much road to kick the can down.

Well, they gave him 25 million to sign and 31m year 1 money.  My initial estimate was assuming 22 million year 1 money.   So his year one cap hit is 11 million, but we can administratively restructure him and save an extra 4 million.

He played at an All Pro level.

Two years ago Peter King had him winning DPOY.

It came together for him.

Combination of talent, health, scheme.

This is what it costs to retain that type of talent.

Glad they did.
Bad enough they will be losing Queen.

You can replace some, you can't replace everyone.

Also need to show your players that you are willing to invest on those that produce.

Well, Jones signed a 5 year deal for like 32 million aav. So maybe the Ravens saw this coming and decided to give Mads a blank check in anticipation of that.

The one year / contract year spike is a legit concern. In this case I like the fact that he visibly improved his game year over year though leading up to last year, and the newer coach who's name escapes me but had pass rush specialist role probably helped propel him even more. So in that regard, I have less concern (not zero, but less) that we'll see a big drop off in production.

Injury on the other hand, a different matter and more of a dumb luck thing. But if he stays healthy I feel pretty optimistic they're going to get a few really good years out of him.

Think we have to look at this as our big FA move. Dont expect a significant signing this week

Well, we saved money by signing him long term so we could still sign someone.

I do think they make a run at Henry but whether that comes to fruition or not remains to be seen.

Well seeing him run six times in a playoff game will certainly be worth the money.

If Isaac Guerendo is available in the later rounds, I hope the Ravens grab him.  He does have some holes in his game and doesn't have a ton of ball carrying experience for his age(he'll be 24 when the new season starts) but his athletic potential is off the charts for his size. He's a big, fast dude who can also catch the ball.  To me, he'd be a nice replacement for Gus if he leaves.
