Following a tough road loss to Northwestern, Maryland returns home for a matchup against Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. Tom Izzo's team currently holds a record of 11-7 (3-4), and have lost two of their last four games. Their three conference losses have all come on the road, to Nebraska, Northwestern, and Illinois. In fact, they haven't won a road game all year and won just one of their three neutral-site contests. Their best win of the season came against Baylor in mid-December, when they annihilated the Bears as part of the Motor City Invitational in Detroit, MI.
The Spartans are led by star senior point guard Tyson Walker, who's averaging 20 points per game while shooting 49% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. For the most part it's a four-man show for Michigan State, with Walker joined by fellow upper-classmen A.J. Hoggard, Malik Hall, and Jaden Akins who all average double-digit scoring. Senior center Mady Sissoko is typically the fifth starter, providing excellent defense and rebounding but not much on the offensive end.
Since joining the Big Ten, Maryland is 6-11 against Michigan State. The Spartans have won the last three matchups, with the Terps' last win coming in the 2021 Big Ten Tournament.
