Will the Orioles win more than 100 games again? That could be tough. It’s also possible they won’t repeat as division champions, considering four teams have won an AL East title over the past six seasons. But Baltimore has too much talent to not make it to October, so it will earn consecutive postseason berths for the first time since 1996 and ‘97.

The Yankees, Mets, Padres, Cardinals, Indians and Angels all thought that (bolded) at this time last year.

Winning is more than Talent.

This Oriole team isn't some amazing compilation of Talent.

The 2012-2016 Orioles teams didn't accumulate the most wins in the AL by having more Talent than everyone else and the 2017-2018 Orioles teams didn't fall completely on their ass because they lacked Talent.

That's what they have to build on.  Same players don't equal same results because the influences around every player change.  That's why Buck and AJ were so important, stability in the approach.

That's what they have to figure out next.

Not to mention other teams improving (on paper) more than other teams. Standing pat in the ALE, even coming off a 101 win season), may not be a path to the playoffs.

They had too many lo-or non-productive guys in the lineup last year and thus gave away too many at-bats. Mateo, Urias, Frazier , etc. What's more, Hays had only 67 RBI in 566 at-bats (60 in 582 AB in '22) last yr., and Mullins had a horrible, injury-marred second half in which he batted only.209.They made up for some of that w/fabulous hitting w/men on base. But that's a very, very iffy stat that you can't count on.

They thus need a talent infusion and consistent offense in more lineup spots. Luckily, a lot of that's in the system now. Certainly Holliday in one. And I wouldn't include Kjerstad or Mayo in a Cease deal, either. There's plenty else..

Yes, a TOR starter is top priority, but not THAT vital. They have a few good pitching prospects in the high minors they could chose from in package deals. And perhaps Mountcastle could go in a 3-way arrangement that nets us a pitcher.

So we if we get the bolded....how many games do we win?  110?  120?

Can't speak for Mikezpen but my two cents.

1. You missed the part, or chose to discount it, what he said about the O's hitting with RISP. And I agree with his assessment that its not likely repeatable.

2. No we don't win 110 games by adding more talent. Nobody including you thought the O's were a 100 win team last year. The stars aligned and they did so. But lots of things went their way too. If they stand pat do they win 100 this year? I highly doubt it because the stars don't likely align as well plus other teams are making improvements. IMO they needed to make 3 improvements to stay near the top....already being discussed elsewhere. Doing those things doesn't make them a 110 team. It gives them a shot at staying near the top of the division.

I get that you're trying to push back, but the logic path you're trying to walk down leads you to the center of my position.

So....thanks?
