If the Terps go 12-6 in ACC play, I'll be ecstatic. I do think it's possible, but like you said, there will be some added pressure to win ACC play due to the light OOCS. I'm even more pumped than I already was with Wells eligible.

I really think they went from being a bubble team with promise, to a team that really competes well with anyone. Not just for what Wells will bring himself, but the corresponding difference he brings to the roster as a whole.

Tomorrow can not come soon enough.

The 18 game regular season schedule in the ACC is going to be wild.

Yes, it will certainly have a residual impact that will be fun to watch. Can't freakin' wait till tomorrow. I'm hanging with the family, but have already assured the TV will be on ESPN at 8:30!

Ben Broman of Testudo Times did a great job of breaking it down if anyone is interested to read it. Basically what he said in a nutshell, which I agree with, is that Wells fills the biggest hole on this team. If Wells could not play, they would have to have gone with either Howard, Faust and Allen, who is still probably not quite ready for starters minutes yet, or Howard/Allen, Faust and Layman, who is also not ready for starters minutes. It gives them the most explosive set of wing players they possibly could have, and adds experience. It also takes pressure off of Faust to be the go-to guy.

Personally, I feel like this just went from a bubble team, like Chris said, with a lot of promise to a legitimate tournament team that no one wants to face. Coack K and Calipari have already come out and said that this team is a dangerous team and now that Wells is playing, they can beat anyone. Don't be surprised if they win tomorrow. This team really is that talented. The ACC just got interesting. Without Wells, they were picked to finish 6th. My opinion now? 4th, good enough for an automatic bid.

The starting lineup should be this for Maryland Friday.

PG: Pe'Shon Howard
SG: Dez Wells
SF: Nick Faust
PF: James Padgett
C: Alex Len

Seth Allen, Charles MItchell and Logan Aronhalt will add some danger off of the bench, as Aronhalt is a sharp shooter and Layman possesses athletic ability, with Allen being able to fill up the basket. Shaq has some work to do to get better, but as the season progresses, he will. SO they are about nine deep right now, which is absolutely perfect. Syracuse showed last season (and because I am from the area I watch many of their games) that being nine deep is a huge positive as the starters don't get very tired so in crunch time, they can come up big. Maryland is a top 25 team, I really have no doubts about that. They are deep and talented. I also believe Wells may be around for another year after this one. He was obviously very emotional and was very grateful for what Maryland had done for him. May sway him to stick around. Maybe that is just a dream, but lets not look at that yet, as I am just very excited for this season. Kudos Turge, you have this program headed in the right direction.

When you say 'automatic bid', I assume you are saying at-large, but not really on the bubble?

Yes, I should have clarified. What I meant was they will win enough games that they receive an at-large bid. Thanks for catching my gaffe.

I haven't looked forward to a Maryland basketball season this much in a long time.

Is Aronhalt a freshman or a transfer?

Transfer from UAlbany. One year remaining for him.

He is actually a grad student. So a senior in eligibility. Transfered and became eligible based on having completed his degree.
Same situation that allowed DOB to leave Maryland football.

Chris, real good article. 24-7 seems a little bit high too me. There are a lot of pieces that need to come together. They are very deep but there is very little history of playing together and the weak NC schedule may be what is needed to allow the team to grow.
I am really looking forward to see if the Terps can become a dangerous outside shooting team. If that happens the inside play should open up. I expect Mitchell, CLeare and even Lenn to have their share of ups and downs. They are all young.
As for Wells, he needs to be the go to guy.

The other key is Faust. I think if Howard struggles you will see Nick play some point so all the pressure does not fall to Allen.
Looking forward to see how Maryland does against UK.
It will be a test.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a valuable player coming off the bench.

Wells being eligble is a huge boost and Coach Turge will actually have a solid rotation to work with this season.

My expectations just increased and I agree that if they come together this could be a tournamnet team.

Still not sure about tomorrow night's chances but I will say that the best time to get Kentucky is early. They will be tough come March.

I think with Wells available know Aronhalt role will become more of a zone buster type of player.

Aronhalt will be the outside Maryland has wanted since Hayes. He is knockdown from out there. As for the zonebuster talk, absolutely spot on. Going to be hard to run zone against this team, although Duke will be tough with their tight man to man defense.
