The HR derby is so boring. I was almost glad Gunnar flamed out so I could turn it off.
Way too many swings.
I'd like to see other things... running the bases, arm strength, relays.

The HR derby ceased being impactful (to me anyway) since it lost its wow-factor in the late 90s.
As for arm strength, base running, relays?
We have Statcast, that well, casts a net covering the entire sport. If you hold those events at ASG week, you’d need to bring on uninvited players for the event to mean anything.

Well yeah, certainly aware we have the metrics available.
Still think they'd be more interesting events.
I like the idea of bringing in the best of the best for particular events (and yes, a good % of them would not be on the all-star rosters). It could work, but then again, chicks dig the long ball.

I'm indifferent to the HR derby, and mostly indifferent to all star games in every sport. Something different could be interesting--I thought it was cool when they had NFL pro bowlers play dodge ball. I don't know what that could be in baseball.
I did like this show when I was a kid in the 80s, anyone else remember it?

I don't like all star events much at all. Much prefer our players were home getting a physical and mental break.
Have the voting. Winners get a trophy to put in their case, a box of Omaha steaks, and a bottle of champagne. Have a nice quiet and relaxing celebration at home. 😉

Worst two days of the year we are in right now.
I've often said that 4-6 teams should have the Saturday and Sunday before the AS break off so that they can get fired up on the Weds after the game.
This stinks lol

I don't usually bother dedicating the time to watch the ASG. But with the strong O' presence, I decided to last night. I get that it's a popularity contest, and that it's all pomp & circumstance. Hype, hype, hype, I have no problem with that. But when it gets down to game time, it would be nice if they would treat it like a game. They're more interested in doing interviews, than showing the on the field action.
Late in the game, Westburg was at bat. They showed almost none of that AB, because they had Big Floppy running around the dugout asking players if they were gonna do a Big Poppy (hit a HR). He asked Gunnar if he was gonna go deep, and Gunnar had to tell him that he doubted it, since he wasn't likely to get any more ABs after being replaced.
I know Westburg isn't a household name in MLB, but I'm sure his friends and family were excited to see him get to play. Except they didn't. I'm pointing out JW, because he's an Oriole, but the same goes for the other replacements. After the starters are pulled, it just devolves into a commercial and interview extravaganza.
Good news! I saw a dog today.
