Think one or both will be moved this Winter?

Big year for both Hays and Santander.
Like them both.

I'm guessing the O's won't want to move both, but will probably move one for help (bullpen arm).

If you replace them with Cowser and Kjerstad, you'll go from young 'vets' to two kids breaking their way in.

If Cowser and Kjerstad replaced Hays and Santander to begin '24, what percentage of Hays and Santander's '23 production do you think they'd provide?

I'd move Hays for BP help. Keep Santander unless you're bowled over by an offer. Ride his bat next year as he booms his way towards the biggest payday of his career.

Yeah Santander being a switchy is huge for this lineup. As are the 30ish HRs. Never say never but Im holding onto him heading into '24. Hays is probably the OF who is most available. As an Arb2 guy and increasing salary Im not sure how much he would be valued. 2.1 fWAR. 2.5 rWAR. Decent starter. Feels like a guy a team might give a little bit for knowing he has a high floor if healthy. Ceiling also very low.

Yeah, I guess if one has to go, then it would be Hays for me, Anthony's switch-hitter power is rare. They are both in their maturity stage and should have great numbers for next 3-4 years.

I'd rather keep Santander. Hays always seems to have a .500 OPS month where he's trying to play through something. He's a better defender but I don't think the difference is as huge as it was. Switch hitter is always nice, especially with how the team is clearly focusing on platoon splits. Hays has an extra year of control, maybe he has a little more value.

I'm counting on both of them to help us win a WS, I'll worry about next year and who may not be here after the parade

Trade Hays, let Santander play out his contract.

Trade Cowser.

Eh. I'm willing to give Cowser more chances before selling.

I am not selling because I think he's not going to be any good.

I am selling for several reasons:

1. I much prefer Hays for his defense in LF.

2. I think Santander is a better hitter overall and on par defensively.

3. Kjerstad is also in the same mix and I prefer him over Cowser. Not going to carry 5 OFers.

4. I think Cowser gets the best trade return.

You don't have to choose between Cowser, Kjerstad, and Santander for 2024. 6 years of Cowser > 2 years of Hays plus more upside.

Kjerstad could likely be slotted into the DH/1B/OF role and get plenty of ABs. He offers more pure power, but Cowser still has the better hit tool, OBP, and probably defensive advantage. Should be able to take advantage of both players.

The same Cowser who hit a grandslam in the AAA championship yesterday?

Yep, same one.

Cowser, Ortiz and Norby seem to be the prospect depth we could look to trade from. All highly rated still, all somewhat blocked. Also a few MLB guys we could move to open up opportunities ahead of them instead. Or could use them in bench roles.

I think Hays is likely to get traded for maybe a closer,  The Orioles have to prioritize left handed hitters with the dimensions of the ballpark, plus Santander and Gunnar will provide the muscle in the lineup.

Tell me how you get enough at bats for these guys:

Hays, Santander, Mullins, Cowser, Kjerstad, O"Hearn, and Mountcastle. Especially when you need to DH Adley a fair bit. You simply can't have all those guys on the active roster.

So I think Cowser is the one to go. Others see it differently and thats fine. But you can't have all of these guys in 2024. It won't work.

The ballpark dimensions and you wanting left handed hitters is exactly why I want Hays. That's a lot of area in LF to cover defensively and I think he's the best we have out there and its not very close,

Hays defense is already starting to slip a bit and he's only 28.
