Go. Remember they can change up the roster after each round.

The big question is 13 man pitching staff or 12. If its 13 then Lopez is ineligible and boom you have your 13 pitchers that are currently here now. If its 12, and I suspect it will be 12, then 1 more pitcher is left off. My guess is it would be Fuji. Its not going to be anyone currently in the rotation. Gibson will 100% make it. It comes down to Fuji vs Flaherty. If its 13/13 then I guess Kjerstad is left off.

Position players:

Adley

Mccann

Mounty

O'Hearn

Frazier

Westburg

Mateo

GUnnar

Urias

Santander

Mullins

Hays

Hicks

Kjerstad

Pitchers:

Bradish

Rodriguez

Means

Gibson

Kremer

Webb

Flaherty

Wells

Cano

Coulombe

Perez

Hall

Yeah, I think the only real debates are McKenna vs Kjerstad and Fuji vs Flaherty.  I guess 12 vs 13 pitchers is also a debate, but I think they'll go with 12.

I guess the other wild card is Bautista's health, but I'm thinking he'd be activated for the ALCS at the earliest, and even that's unlikely.

Think they will want the extra lefty bat. Fuji vs Flaherty is the real tough one IMO. Its interesting that Flaherty has only pitched once in relief and that was way back in the 2nd Hou game. That was like 8 or 9 days ago. Its been awhile since Fuji has pitched too though.  I was trying to talk myself into wondering if there might be a Hall vs Irvin debate for the 3rd LH spot but I just dont see it.

Flaherty instead of Fuji.

The only time you trust Fuji is mop up duty. Can’t use a roster spot there.

Yeah, I would take Flaherty over Fuji, but it's not clear to me if they actually think Flaherty can pitch in relief. Maybe he isn't taking to the role, can't get loose properly on short notice, whatever. If he can't do it then I guess it's Fuji. I don't trust him either but he'd be the last guy in the bullpen, or maybe if you get in a situation where only a K will do or something. Irvin is an option instead too like you mention, I probably wouldn't mind that instead of Fuji but doubt it happens.

In all, I think your list in post 2 seems right. I prefer 12 pitchers, and I also think and prefer Kjerstad over McKenna, but I could see them going the other way. I assume no Bautista for at least the ALDS.

I think Bautista gets activated tomorrow. We gotta see if he has anything before next weekend.

No we don't.  If he's ready, fine, but they'll learn just as much from bullpens and simulated games over the next two weeks as they could possibly learn from one game this weekend.  Who knows if we hear about every session, but doesn't seem to me like he's thrown frequently enough to be activated yet.

I'll be shocked if he's activated.  Excited, but shocked.

The rested and refreshed bullpen looks pretty capable at the moment.   Obviously it would be great to get him back, but I'm feeling more confident with the guys we have back there right now.

If Bautista is available neither Fuji or Flaherty are factors. DL has been on point, can't see Irvin over him unless the FO and Hyde favor experience.

Not sure about Kjerstad. Since he wasn't in the majors before September 1, he can't be on an initial postseason roster. However, since he was in the Orioles' system, he can only be added to replace an injured player.

Both Elias and Hyde have said they wanted to see Bautista face live hitters. Based on that, I can only conclude that if we intend to use Bautista in the playoffs, he'll be activated this weekend.

The use of the term "live hitters" is subject for debate. We know they already had Mounty and another guy in the box against him. Live hitters could also mean batters taking hacks off of him trying to square him up. That also can be done in house. IMO once they decided to throw this hailmary to see what he could do the best case scenario was the playoffs and playoffs only. And prob deep in the playoffs. Only if they make a ALCS or WS run. I dont think they ever thought it possible he would throw a reg season pitch

That's what a simulated game is. Live hitters.

I have only guesses whether he'll be available in the postseason, and he very well may not, but not pitching this weekend won't exclude him. It's other criteria that might exclude him.

They have a plan but Hyde said they were running out of time. That's what led me to believe they wanted to see him in the regular season. Of course they can do whatever they want whenever they want and we may never know what the exact parameters are. I just hope the miracle happens and he never needs surgery whether he pitches this season or not.

Bautista to have TJ surgery. Why not sooner?
