This is taking a little long. I don't know whether that's good or bad but I'm hoping we hear strain and not tear and he doesn't need surgery. Then at least we can get him back in 2024. Seeing him in the dugout during games gives me hope.

If it was an obvious full tear we'd know by now. So it's at least somewhat plausible that he can heal without surgery. Still might come to that, could just be that it's fairly clear choice but Felix wants a second opinion to be sure. That's what Means did last year, was about two weeks between injury and surgery.
The timing doesn't really matter, as if he has the surgery, he'll definitely miss all of '24. So take time to be certain since he should have ample recovery time before 2025 whether the surgery is now or in two months.

I bet he's looking for any avenue that may allow him to pitch in 2023 again. It just isn't worth the risk.
