Yeah I wasn't directing that comment at you. That was the right decision and a bad throw. Infielders practice plays like that all the time.

I know you weren't.

These guys are so good they think they can make any play. That's more than ok in my book.

The Rockies were getting all of the bad breaks like 8 games in a row. Something was bound to go right for them.

Good point.

They also got a great effort from Blach and turned that bases loaded 5-2 DP. That was huge.

Trailed the majority of the weekend. Lucky to win 2 of 3.

Hey here's an idea. Score more than 3 runs against the WORST team in the NL and that bad throw doesn't matter.

My point is that's what you want him to do anyway.

Just bad luck all around. If Mountcastle's at first (I know, if) it's probably an out because the throw would have been to his glove side since he's a righty, and he's also taller. Then there's the Baltimore Chop to third which about nine miles in the air to score the runner from third. Colorado scored the winning run and never hit a ball out of the infield.

One thing I will say about Colorado is that those guys compete even though they're a bad team. Some teams start to get that beaten look about them around this time of year and they're hopelessly out of it, but the Rockies play their asses off and make you beat them.

Of course, giving up a homerun to a guy hitting .167 doesn't help, either.

I agree that Gunnar did the right thing.  He made a bad throw, but the decision was right.  In bing-bing play like that when you've got maybe 1/2 second to make a decision, you can't be thinking should I pull up.  Do that and you've lost the agressiveness that makes great players and wins games.  Right decision, just maybe not a great throw.  That's going to happen to the best guys who push it.

I also think you saw what Buatista means to the team.  Cano pitched way over his abilities earlier in the year.  That error putting a guy on second may not have mattered with a guy like Buatista on the mound.  He might be able to keep the ball out of play and get it into extra innings.  Cano is simply not that good.

I think a team like the Yankees might be one of those beaten team looks.  They are used to being in the hunt, and were expected to be contending for the division.  Their players probably have little interest in playing out the string.  The Rockies are most likely a young team with a lot of guys who want to stay up in the majors.  They have have a lot of interest in competing ever day.  Kind of like some of the Orioles a couple of years ago.

It’s a concern our offense can just disappear like it does.

Good post.

My son said to me yesterday at the game that Colorado was not playing like a last place team. Like CP stated that's a testament to the players and I'll add their manager as well. While we debated Gunnar's throw to death yesterday, you bring up an interesting point about how Colorado scored the go ahead run. The guy who put the ball in play (Ford?) is hitting under.200. Strike him out and Gunnar's error isn't a factor.

The loss of Felix is bigger than so many realize. His strikeout potential is huge in a scenario like that

This team is as resilient as they come. I still can't shake the feeling this lowers the ceiling. Sucks.

Of course it does. BPs are huge in the playoffs and he was the best.

Yea, you and me both.  I am hoping it is not TJ surgery, so we do not lose him for most of next year too.

Luck plays such a large part in going deep or through the playoffs.
