Won't be the end of the world, but I think we're looking at a sweep here for the first time in forever.

Gausman and we never beat Berrios.

Dislike. There is no reason to say crap like this after losing the first game of a series. Why is this series different than the Dodgers series or Mil series. Obv a sweep is possible. We all know it will happen eventually but saying this has absolutely no merit other than to be negative

Tough matchups.

Really need Flaherty and Kremer to step up.

They should at least split the next two. They've been able to get to Gausman a bit.

Why wasn’t Felix in there in the 10th? He threw like what, 12 pitches in the 9th? He could have pitched the 10th. As soon as I saw Baumann out there I knew it was over.

Its different at home. A second inning on the road once you know you score is different then pitching the top of the 10th. Its absolutely the right decision. Hyde pointed that out. He wants him the rest of the series. He wants him down the stretch. Too much risk. You assume he gets Tor without them scoring and you assume you score in the bottom of the 10th. When you do it on the road youve already took away one of those assumptions because you scored in the 10th. He would bever throw him 2 in a reg seas game if we dont score in the top of the 10th but we pretty much always do

I’m shocked this is your take

Speaking only for myself, I think I'd rather have Toronto in the playoffs than Seattle.

I have said it before and will say it again, I intensely dislike the extra inning format that puts a runner on 2nd base.  The Orioles have benefited from it before, and it was not the reason they lost last night, but I still don't like it.  It's a gimmick I would expect in T-ball, not in a professional league.

Some of the best baseball games I ever saw were the ones that went 3,4,5 or more extra innings.  The tension builds as you keep going.  I Yes, it drains your bullpen, but that's part of the game, or was.

Not in a 162 game season. I felt that way initially. Not anymore. The rule is necessary. Obviously, you dont do it in the playoffs

I agree. It's a joke.  That said, you aren't going to win many games when you score 3 runs in 10 innings.

That's not the first time Mateo has had problems laying down a bunt. I know he manufactured us a run earlier in the game but he has got to get that bunt down in that situation.

Watching hitters today trying to lay down bunts is a circus.  I can't get too upset with Mateo.  He's got a lot of company.

The runner on 2nd is a joke. The entire argument is that its a 162 game season and the extra innings are too taxing. Ok, I buy that. Then just call it a tie. Been looked at umpteen times and it has no impact on the final standings. So if you really want to protect the players then just call it a tie and move on. A fictitious outcome is dumb.

And ok ties are dumb. Just play baseball.

Now as to last night. Some odd decisions. I get not running Felix out there in the 10th. You want him the rest of the series. So why trot him out there in the 9th? The only advantage is that you are banking on scoring in the bottom of the inning then running him out for the 10th with a lead. Seems like smarter move was to just use somebody else since its most likely you were going to have to do that anyway.

I'm going to disagree.  MLB got along fine for over 100 years without a ghost runner in extra innings.  It's not necessary.   I read that statistically only close to 2% average of all major league games usually went to 12 innings or longer without the ghost runner.  I don't think you need a rule like that for 2% of all games.  It's preference for sure.  I just happen not to prefer it.  I think it's a rule for kids, for Olympic or world tournament games, but not for a professional league.

And you're not going to do it in the playoffs?  Then why do it at all?   It would seem a rule like that would be more important in a short series if you're looking to save your pitching staff.  I don't like it, and I don't think I ever will.

I will bet the overwhelming majority of players like it. Having zero 12, 15, god forbid 18 inning games in a season compared to even just 2 is big for them. Obviously, you dont do it in postseason. Football and hockey games csnt end in ties in the playoffs. They do in the reg season. I initially said Id prefer to enforce the ghost runner in the 12th and not the 10. Could still do that but Im good with it after 9.

I think two full innings with regular rules is fine.

After that, yea, ghost runner.
