We are talking about Ryan McKenna here. Whatever McKenna may bring better than Cowser now isn’t worth what Cowser could bring if he gets hot. Cowser is elite stock. McKenna is scrap heap fodder.
At least McKenna can track a fly ball and hit a cut off man. Despite his impressive pedigree, Cowser has not shown that he can play a passable major league center field. Bat McKenna 9th until either Hicks or Mullins comes back. Defense matters. Like 2035 stated, Cowser is overwhelmed right now.

You’re given two scratch off cards. You can keep one. Both cost $1. One of them guarantees you’ll win $2. The other has a 1/10 chance of winning you $1000 and 9/10 chance of winning you nothing. Which are you taking???
Apples and oranges. You don't have to pick one or the other. You own both.

Elite stock doesn't make the defensive errors Cowser has made.
Elite stock made a a throw to Babe Ruth's ghost instead of a cut off man last night.

He didn't look good before that play.
That play was a head scratcher.

And not for nothing but only one of Cowser and McKenna have literally cost us a game with the defense this year
Ok.

Cowser has been that bad on both sides. People are squinting so hard to see something thats just not there. There have been no signs to this point. He 100% looks overwhelmed and has from the jump. It certainly doesnt mean his career is buried but we cant do this right now. Hes not gonna play once the other two get back anyway. Like Sept and Oct baseball him being in the equation in any real way is gone unless the injuries remain. So what exactly are you trying to get out of him right now that helps this season???? If you wanna open up a starting spot for him this offseason for the '24 season I can get down with that but Im essentially done with him for the rest of '23.
I don't think he's shown anything to open up a spot (I.E. trading Santander) in 2024. He just hasn't shown anything that leads me to believe that he should be handed a starting job. I think he should be given a clean slate, but he needs a strong spring to push his way onto the team. So far he looks like a poor man's Kyle Stowers.

Stowers wasn't as bad in the field.

They have depth so Id be alright with it if the right trade came along for Hays or Santander. But I agree he really hasnt earned it.

I agree
Stowers did flash a bit of leather.
I guess there isn't a real good comp for Cowser's early returns.
He simply hasn't 'looked ready for the show.
