The good news tonight is Fuji missed a lot of bats. The bad news is he didn't miss a lot of body parts.

Going to pin this one on Hyde. Looking at Fuji's stats.
For the year he has 55 innings pitched and 42 walks plus hit batters. Not the guy to use there.
He's borderline Steve Blass when he suddenly couldn't throw the ball over the plate anymore.

I am genuinely shocked that you're trying to argue they are even in the same stratosphere as far as pitching offenses go.
OK, Mr. Hyperbole.

Meh. Hes not going to get offered arbitration and every team out there knows it so he will be gone anyway. I could see them holding onto him but it isnt necessary. I trust Ortiz the most at SS and thing hes likely our starting SS in 2024 but for now I expect them to mostly be going with Henderson at SS and the working in 2 of the Urias, Frazier, and Westburg at 2b and 3b. If you bring up Ortiz right now he's just not gonna play much. So is Ortiz mostly riding the pine better than Mateo riding the pine? At least mateo still brings the elite speed as a PR option.
Mateo’s speed off the bench is not worth the risk of more mental lapses, because we all know Hyde will play him at SS a few times a week..

How often down the stretch is speed off the bench really going to be a factor vs how many times a mental aw shit would be a factor?

Down the stretch, probably not so much. In the playoffs might be a different story, though.
We didn't really see it in 2021 or 2022, but from what we've seen in 2023 it's pretty apparent why Mateo was available in the first place. Maybe he's just a guy who needs to play every day (which the O's can't do) or else he falls apart.

So Mateo is now the kid at the end of the Sandlot who comes in as a pinch runner to steal home?

"I pitch well except when I put pressure on myself" probably doesn't bode well for the postseason.

I said it. I've been saying it. I took heat for saying it, but it's true. He's a disaster who should pitch in nothing but mop up duty until further notice.

I think at this point it's time to cut the cord with Mateo. If he gets DFA'd and some last-place team like Oakland, Kansas City or Colorado puts in a claim, who cares?
