I wasn't able to see the game, but I really like the free throw numbers. That's something that has been bad for a long time, and is something that can kill chances to win in close games. Hopefully this is a sign of positive improvement in that area.

I hope Turgeon has a quick hook with Padgett. I have never been real impressed with him. Senior or not, if Mitchell is outperforming him, Mitchell needs to start. We have a weak non-conf schedule except Kentucky, meaning we have to win those games. Losses to Northwestern, or LIU Brooklyn, etc...will not look good. 12-1 when conf. play starts is where we need to be.

The 1 being Kentucky, but I won't rule MD completely out of that one.

Missed the game, but enjoyed the write up.

Sounds like it was about what I expected. A few things in the write up stood out.

The use of a 1-3-1 zone. That is a zone that is easy to trap out of and extend if you want to press a little off the inbound.
Maryland did next to no trapping and pressing last year, based on no depth so this is a good sign to me.
Lenn not being aggressive is a concern. He needs to be a little selfish and demand the ball more.
Mitchell 15 rebounds. That is a lot. I am assuming he played a little more than half the game.
Allen being impressive. The Terps need him.

Chris, who did Maryland have at the top of the 1-3-1 and who was running the baseline??

I would guess Faust at the top, but it is a defense that can be an effective change of pace.

Makes sense, length and quickness at the top. Trap on the sides with the more physical players. Layman would probably make sense on the baseline, although I don't like using a guy, who will be counted on the score to expend so much energy running the baseline fighting through down screens.
Using the 1-3-1 to get your team moving their feet and disrupt the other team when you feel like they are too comfortable is nice strategy. I have a feeling Turgeon is going to show us a lot of stuff this year that we did not see last year.
He just did not have the bodies to do a lot last year.

I noticed Seth Allen had 16 points, 5 assists and no turnovers. The kid sounds like he is ready to give P a run for the point guard spot. For maryland to be a better team they have to move the ball better than they did last year and set each other up. Having a PG who gets that started is key. Nice to see Allen get a good start.

I have always been high on Seth Allen. He was not an AAU player, or at least not a top notch one that I know of, so he really went under the radar, similar to Damonte Dodd but because Dodd is going to prep school, he has 4 star rankings. Allen is a 4 star caliber player with a lot of growing to do. He is a player that can light it up but does make careless mistakes. He will be good, and he may be one of the best to come out of this Maryland class. Better yet, he is a really good kid. Good heart and a great family from what I gather. This was a steal by Turge, as I believe no other major offers came his way.

I think you are right. I think Turg and Spinneli were on him at A&M. Many players get rated based on who is recruiting him. The player goes up a notch just because Duke or NC are on them on cheating John wants him.
Hopefully he emerges because Maryland needs a PG.
