No thanks. With this approach you'd be artificially limiting availability and leverage, IMO. Like what if you only need 3 of the group B to finish a given game, you then won't use any of them the next day because you wanna stay with this pairing? If no, and you'd use guys if needed, then you don't actually have a pairing.

I would t make any changes to overall usage. Cano to Bautista unless he's unavailable. Those are the only guys I really trust right now, so bridge to them however needed.

Agree that when Tate and Givens are ready, Voth and Irvin are the guys to go right now. I wouldn't yank Grayson from the rotation yet, and probably not even if he has another dumpster fire start. I'll ride that out a while.

But generally would help imo.  Guys would know when they could be expected to be used (which they like), and would keep everyone fresh.

I am all for any kind of bullpen management that stops using 6 pitchers so often. Drives me nuts.

I don't think this is what Buck did. We had plenty of Brach, O'Day, Britton for 7-8-9, but I don't think he had Orange and Black squads and tried to stick to one group or the other o any given game. He was wildly prepared in terms of knowing when he wanted to use guys and finding rest days for them when needed. Fully support that idea and thinking of not only the game at hand when making decisions, but also being willing and able to pivot from the plan when a leveraged opportunity to win a game presents itself.

We may be talking about the same general concept. I guess I just think the A and B squad approach is distracting.

Im using my A squad together in every high leverage game they are avaliable. Things can change and make what looks like a high leverage spot not one but if we get to the 8th and 9th and sometimes the 7th too for Cano and those two are available they get the call every time. BTW Cano and Bautista are the only A squad guys right now.
