883 OPS in 88 PA before the injury this time...lets see what it does to him.

Last year he never hit the DL but missed more than a game with an injury twice.  Thru May 13 (132 PA) he had an 808 OPS, then missed 3 games.  He returned and had a 726 OPS thru August 2 (262 PA), then missed 4 games.  He returned and finished the season with a 663 OPS (184 PA).

Hand contusion doesn't sound serious but it's always something with Hays. It sucks because he once again was flashing what he can be. Issues with the hand can greatly impact your swing, so even if he can play through it, who knows if this lingers. I wonder if it's worth an IL stint?

PS...Mackus beat me to it....more eloquently, as always.

Agree a contusion doesn't sound too serious, but would rather them make sure he's right instead of letting him convince them to play through it after a few days off.  We've got Stowers sitting at AAA and Cowser is also raking if you wanna go to him for the superior defense in the spacious LF at home (the next 10 games are on the road after today though, so would be a good time to get Stowers some run).

They cant afford to let him play through an injury this year. Or a sustained bad stretch of baseball. Doesnt really matter which it is. Cowser is knocking on the door.

Yeah, Hays tried to play through a hand/wrist injury last year and ended up sucking for over half the season.  You can't let him do that again this year.  Let him go on the IL and get healthy.  Stowers or Cowser can fill in.

Hays is the 2nd worst defensive OF in baseball according to fangraphs. He has to perform offensively. The cliff he has fallen off of defensively has put a lot of pressure on a bat thats never been great.

Is it possible that all the extra space negatively affects some of the defensive stats for a left fielder?
