After a 3-0 start to their regular season, Maryland hits the road this weekend to take part in the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in Uncasville, CT. In their first game, they'll face off against Saint Louis, who's also started off with a 3-0 record. The Billikens are fresh off of a big 90-84 win over Memphis on Tuesday night, and are the best team in this tournament. Travis Ford is in his sixth season as their head coach, and led them to a 23-12 (12-6 Atlantic 10) record last year. They haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2019, but expectations are very high for this year's team.

The team is led by sophomore shooting guard Gibson Jimerson, a Richmond, VA native who's averaging just under 19 points per game and is shooting 46% from beyond the arc. Junior point guard Yuri Collins is averaging a double-double of 14 points and 12 assists per game. This may be a game where you see Maryland go small more often than not, with senior forwards Francis Okra and Jake Forrester being their biggest players at 6'9". Maryland's defense has been excellent so far this season, but they'll be fully put to the test as this is one of the best offenses they'll see all year.

Maryland will play either Miami (FL) or Providence on Sunday afternoon, depending on the outcomes of each first round game.

This is a real good test for Maryland.  I think we will see the rotation shrink for this game. I hope Cornish is part of it.

I wish this was a home game for the Billikens.

I am assuming because you want the Terps to play in a hostile environment?

Yup. I'm surprised St. Louis doesn't have more of a NCAAT presence. They we set to host first and second round games in 2020, but COVID, and haven't been scheduled them since. Won't have them in 23'. Where the Rams used to play isn't as new as Reliant Stadium, Lucas Oil, New Georgia Dome (Mercedes Benz?) or have the track record of the Superdome. But it's basketball, who cares. They could play some regional semis and finals there at a minimum.

Arch Madness is a solid tournament. I hope it's still chock full of good mid-majors when life slows down and I can take in three or four days there. When the CAA was good I went to the tournament games in Baltimore and it was a great time, despite the crappy arena.

I wish Champaign IL was closer. But I'm about 2 and a half hours away.

Looks like Saint Louis will try to double-team both Scott and Reese when they get the ball in the paint. Their passing will be tested today.

Apparently he’s specially requested that logo to be used more, at least for his team.

Carey has flashed a few times now. Not sure what I think yet, but he’s got some swag.
