If this is accurate, we’ll see games at:

Noon - FOX

3:30pm - CBS

7:30pm - NBC

The rest of the Big Ten games would be spread on FS1, BTN and likely a streaming service TBD.

The big surprise of course is no games on any ESPN networks.

Ourand also tweeted CBS would pay $350m/year for their weekly afternoon game. No word on any other dollar amounts.

I like Nessler, but if we have to tolerate Gary Danielson…

Ourand tweeted this morning ESPN is definitely out on the Big Ten’s upcoming media deal. It will mark the end of a relationship that began in 1982 (1966 if you count how long the Big Ten has been on ABC).

Wonder if Herbstreit could move to a network that covers the Big Ten.

I’m not sure exactly when his ESPN contract expires, but when he did the deal with Amazon it was reported ESPN also extended his contract for five more years. No more Buckeye games for him.

Seems like a good time to encourage all of you to join (or re join) the pick em pool

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

That game is supposedly going to be the third pick of the weekly games (FOX would likely have the #1 pick for noon most weeks, followed by NBC at 7pm). Certainly not out of the question MD lands in that time slot occasionally, especially against the bigger name opponents.

I'm just biding my time until it's time to fly to LA to see the Terps play UCLA in the Rose Bowl, and cross my fingers the sun sets during the game.

In case anyone is wondering, I have no idea how this deal will work with Big Ten basketball. All the reporting so far has been about football.

I imagine CBS will continue to have a piece of the basketball package. I doubt NBC would be interested, as I don't think they currently do any college basketball. With all the additional inventory with ESPN out, plus two more teams coming, I would think FOX/FS1 will start showing some more games, which could get crowded with their Big East deal too. That could be where one or more of the streaming services come into play also.

Wait. SEC gave up the CBS 3:30 game? That’s a staple.

The SEC didn’t really give it up. ESPN just outbid CBS for it. That game will be on ABC now.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with that game in 2023. That’s when the Big Ten’s new deal starts, but it’s the last year of the SEC’s current deal. The simplest solution is for ESPN to just buyout CBS for that last year, but given how relatively little CBS pays for it they may not want to give it up before they have to.

Action Network: Big Ten lands historic media rights deal; more expansion ahead?

$7-8B a year for 7 years. My very rudimentary arithmetic skills say that’s about $75M per school once USC/UCLA are on board. And that number still doesn’t include CFP/bowl, and NCAAT money.

FOX, NBC, CBS, FS1 and Peacock will all have a piece. BTN still has a lot of games too, obviously. All of those networks, except NBC, will show MBB. Terps fans will probably need to subscribe to Peacock after this coming season.

There are escalators that could take it to $10B for expansion, so that’s already spelled out. A source to the linked article says the Big Ten wants more West Coast teams.

CBS will only have 7 games in 2023 to accommodate their final season with the 3:30 SEC game.

What are the chances that the big ten needs to rename to the big twenty in the next 10-15 years?

None. They could have 50 members and they aren't going to change the name.
