Regarding Stallings...I've long had a theory that sort of held up to a very cursory initial statistical investigation, but nothing remotely rigorous.
Groundball pitchers tend to have higher HR/FB.
The rationale is that a ball hit in the air off a heavy groundball pitcher is more likely to have been a mistake or bad pitch than a ball hit in the air off of a neutral or flyball pitcher. A while back I plotted the GB% and HR/FB% for the entire league and it seemed like the extremes supported the basic idea.
