To add on to my earlier post about the importance of playing the NIL game, it appears things are (d)evolving even further. If UM supporters and donors wanna play, they better get ready to pay. (EDIT: At least someone is trying to get the ball rolling for UM)
For anyone who thinks this is going too far, thank the arrogant and obstinate NCAA, who could have taken steps on this years ago to satisfy the Plaintiffs in the O'Bannon case but also have "guardrails" in place that might have mitigated this sort of thing. But instead they put all their time and effort into fighting a losing battle in the courts, and now the floodgates have opened.
On3: Directives are the next step in the collectives era of NIL
How do directives differ from collectives, and how does it relate to your alma mater?
Donor-driven, school-specific collectives pool funds from multiple parties, everyone ranging from fans who wish to contribute a nominal monthly subscription fee to deep-pocketed, long-entrenched boosters. A collective operator then determines which student-athletes will receive compensation for which NIL activities. For most collectives, donors have no say in the way in which dollars are distributed.
Directives are different because they are one-to-one financial transactions, typically between a wealthy booster or businessman and a specific college athlete from the school they support. As Lawrence explained, “If I’m a major booster to XYZ University, and I know that I want this kid to get this amount of dollars, then they will directly do a deal with that individual, either through their own business that they already own or just directly with the two parties.”
Sometimes the booster has a wholly owned or operated business entity that is the actual compensating party. The key element that makes directives unique is that the deal is between the individual supporter and the student-athlete – there is no intermediary. And it’s kept under the radar, away from attention-grabbing headlines.

Lamothe is announcing his commitment tomorrow afternoon. Barring a significant change, he’ll be headed to College Park.4-star G Jahnathan Lamothe (Baltimore, MD), a Top-50 prospect and the second-best player in the state, has said that the hire of Kevin Willard (and Tony Skinn) have put Maryland in a much better place to land him.
He’s one of the top high schoolers to watch for in the 2023 class.

Terps seem to be in a very good spot with 3-star F Jamie Kaiser (Burke, VA) and 4-star G Elmarko Jackson (Richland, NJ). Kaiser visited campus last week and could commit soon.

Terps sign Seton Hall guard Jahari Long. Any insight?
He's a 2022 recruit, and was reported about a month ago. It was mentioned here in this thread: https://forum.baltim...ng#entry1010757
Depth addition, played only 5 games last year after suffering a knee injury.

Ah, saw they made the announcement on social media today so thought it was something new.

Long was a portal transfer, so it wouldn't have become official until he finished up at Seton Hall, then had to make sure enough of his credits earned there transferred to UM so he'd be eligible.

Was reportedly very high on Indiana, but the proximity to home gave Maryland the edge. Really nice get for Willard.Got a commit from 6'6" wing Jamie Kaiser, a 4-star at IMG (originally from VA).

How much $$?
No idea if they still only have $60 to hand out, but at least they have a real website now instead of a GoFundMe.

Maryland just picked up two Crystal Balls for 4-star G DeShawn Harris-Smith (Fairfax, VA). Currently ranked as the 2nd-best player in the state of Virginia.
He visited campus last week, and was offered a scholarship over the weekend. Tony Skinn is leading his recruitment.

I like how Willard is working the local market hard. That was missing under Turgeon.
