With all the uncertainty going on with the labor agreement (or lack thereof), I thought a cool topic to discuss would be what your favorite pre-game/tailgate traditions are?

 

I know Pickles is a popular one, especially for opening day (hurry up!).

 

For me, any place with an open-air bar is a winner (The Chausseur, Claddaugh's, and Lee's in Canton are good spots to try), which also include somewhat available (and free!) parking.

Cross St Market before the renovation.  It might still be cool, I haven't been since, but I like the warehouse feel and the $5 beers in giant soup containers.

 

My group's best Opening Day tradition used to be golf in the morning, go to Rub BBQ for lunch, then get to Cross St for beers before heading into the stadium.  But then Rub closed, womp womp.

Pickles is always so crowded, it wasn't my preference to pregame there. But I would often stop by for an Oriole dog (peanut butter, jelly & cream cheese on a hot dog) sold by a vendor in the corded off parking lot area. When I first saw it, I bought one just because it seemed like such a terrible combination of flavors, I had to try it. It actually works, as strange as it seems. Otherwise, I would go to Pratt St Ale House. 

 

During my Virginia years, a big group of us would buy tix to a day game. We'd roll in to Fells Point and bar hop, then walk to the Yard. We'd designate the drivers, and the rest of us would buy them lunch and whatever ballpark snacks and sodas they wanted. Some years the game fell on the same day of the week as our team's softball game. We didn't usually bring our A game to those contests

I really like Pickles/Sliders for less-crowded games.  For big games it got unruly when it was packed shoulder to shoulder and long waits for drinks, but for random weeknight games it was much more enjoyable.

I'm with Mack. Old Cross St Market was the shiznit.

 

Hitting up Faidley's for a crabcake and a few beers is a decent replacement...market closes at 6 pm though.

 

I'm ashamed to say I haven't been to a game since 2017, and that was just one game.

Pickles is my neighborhood bar.

I'll echo what was already said: it's too much on high attendance games, but a good spot otherwise.

A silver lining of the lack of good times on the field is there's more good times at Pickles before and after games since there's usually not many people attending these games.

My buddy Mark owns Sliders so I have an affinity for that place, for obvious reasons.  I do agree for big games when its shoulder to shoulder it gets over the top but I still go...or at least I did until I moved to Florida a few months ago.

Those beers were massive! Always a good vibe. I remembered meeting friends Thanksgiving weekend for football and oysters. Still a good time, but definitely a different vibe.

Good point. For me, I kind of like a big crowd as long as the weather is nice.

I went to Faidley's before the game yesterday. They moved into the new market building...they apparently just moved and opened this week. They kept all the signs and table tops. And I don't know if it was because it was crowded and everything being made fresh (they pre-make and pre-fry their cakes and microwave them when it's slower) but it was the best crabcake I've had there. And maybe the best crabcake I've had period. I've usually ranked Koco's Pub ahead of Faidleys but now I think it's dead even. There was a delicious crab-mustard taste to the crabcake that hasn't been as noticeable before.
