The last time MD finished with a losing overall record was 1992-93. That outcome now appears inevitable.

Turgeon saw the writing on the wall with this team and bailed. Weak.

Just isn't a very talented team behind Ayala and Scott... and they are just OK. Reese has potential, but he's not a game changer yet.

Yeah - I had defended Turgeon the person as opposed to Turgeon the coach for some time now.
But I think he realized this team was not going to be very good, that he probably was gone at the end of the year, so he took a small amount of boos and used it to create this narrative that he was run out of town. Now it looks like the team had it's worst season in some time right after he left and he gets to look like a martyr. The most annoying thing is that it will probably work.

I really doubt that Evans or anybody in the management side of the athletics department was disappointed that the move on Turgeon came in December rather than March.
Some of the players are the only people I can possibly see as disliking the timing. It's great for all the coaches, especially Danny Manning. They all get moved up a notch for the season plus get extra time, while getting paid, to start networking for jobs next season.
I'm still not convinced that this was Turgeon-initiated and not Maryland-initiated, but even if it was I don't really think it's some huge knock on Turgeon's character. I also wouldn't think that this was some K-like move to avoid a few losses on his resume. If he did initiate, or was very open to the idea once it was thrust upon him, I do buy the angle of him getting fed up with the fan critique. I do think that's a bit thin-skinned.

There is some talent on this team, but right now it is a mess. I kind of feel bad for the players. Their coach quit on them, the program is a disaster. They are playing out the string now.
Saturday's game was a good one for me. The grandkids were over and I tuned out Maryland.

Evans: "you promised us something this year, and it's looking like you can't deliver."
Turgeon: "I'm sorry, I can't deliver, I can stick it out or I can quit now if you pay me my contract terms."
Evans: Here's your check, good luck in your job search."

I think it went down the way Evans said it went down. I think it'd make him (Evans) look better if he really did proactively make such a bold statement about his displeasure with the direction of the basketball program. People would like that. So I think Turgeon used the fan criticism as an out when he saw a sinking ship, and initiated the conversation. I do think it's a mark on his character, but I'm a judgmental SOB so to each their own.

Turgeon absolutely initiated. His foot was half out the door last spring lets remember. Im sure the booing annoyed him but he took his ball and went home and quit on this group of players because he knew the wins werent coming.

I try not to be a judgmental SOB, , but I agree, that Turgeon wanted out. If every coach quit because he got booed or was blasted on social media, there would not be any coaches. I also think it helped that he could get his buddy a run as a HC.
I was not as hard on Turgeon, as some, but I am glad he is gone and I feel like he left the next HC an empty cupboard.
