Needing just one more win to reach bowl eligibility, Maryland welcomes #22 Penn State to College Park this weekend. The Nittany Lions come in with a record of 5-3 (2-3) having lost their last three games to Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio State. While they weren't able to beat the Buckeyes last weekend, they looked better than they had the last two weeks and were able to take the game deep into the fourth quarter. Led by their defense, they're allowing the 8th-fewest points per game in the country.

Actually don’t hate the terps here. Won’t bet it (try to avoid betting my teams) but I’d take MD

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Ok they could.

Iowa put 51 on them in that embarrasment. They have only scored a combined 37 points since. That is over three games.

MD has allowed 51, 66, 34, 35. Something in the 40s seems right to me.

Both teams are 5-3, 2-3... both teams are 4-1 at home, and 1-2 away.
PSU has lost their last 3.

The winner will be in 4th place by themselves in the Big Ten East.

PSU put up 44 on Ball State, and 38 on Villanova... but every other game they've been between 16 and 28 points. An average of 22 ppg in those 6 games.

ESPN's Matchup Predictor gives MD a 20.3% chance of winning.

Carlos Carriere and Marcus Fleming are officially starters at the X and H receiver spots on this week’s depth chart, with Rakim Jarrett moving to Z. Challen Faamatau has replaced Peny Boone as the co-backup at RB with Isaiah Jacobs, and Ahmad McCullough is now listed as the lone starter at WILL.

Worth noting that the line has actually gone in the opposite direction. Penn State is only favored by 10 points at the moment.

I'll honestly be shocked if it's within 20. But hope I'm wrong. I'll never bet against one of my teams, but PSU -10 is ridiculously easy money, IMO.

What's the angle here? PSU's defense is shut down, the Terps have shown very little character against challenging opponents.

Is it that PSU saw their season further slip away last weekend and may not be fully into it?

Yes. And with Michigan on the docket for them next week, this could be a trap game on the road. Add in James Franklin’s uncertain status for next season, and Vegas is unsure what to make of Penn State.

I don’t necessarily buy it myself, but that’s likely what it’s about.

It seemed like a low spread when it opened at 11.5. That a lot of money was coming in on MD to lower it further seems even more improbable. Like, have they paid any attention at all to this team over the years?

Another possibility....maybe there's a whole lot of salty PSU fans out there that are frustrated after losing 3 straight, each in somewhat heartbreaking fashion, so they've lost faith that they can cover that many points on MD.
