Now that Juneteenth is officially a federal holiday, I think that this would be as good of a time as any for you guys to show Lonnie Bunch's virtual tour of the Slavery and Freedom exhibit.

There's a ton of educational videos out there to give some additional insight to the holiday...

...including, for those with kids...a BrainPop.

It's incredibly obvious that the issues of today aren't ever going to be resolved unless we face the past head-on.

Have a great day, everyone.

Very much agree with your concluding point!

Also fellow white people, let's do our best to refrain from giving this the Cinco De Mayo treatment.

At the risk of once again asking Antoine to join us for another round of "ask a black guy"...what's the appropriate Juneteenth salutation? Happy Juneteenth? Or is more like Memorial Day where you don't say "happy" because it's not a celebratory day?

RE his concluding point, how can there be confidence that can happen, with the current movement in the South of writing and passing laws prohibiting schools from educating kids about our past?

Oh I have no confidence in that. I hope to be proven wrong.

Speaking for myself (and friends I actually discussed this with), I don't think there is one. I think it's more like MLK Day where it's more an acknowledgement than a salutation.

I would say that, for the future, acknowledgement, research, and support of Black-owned businesses are pretty ground-level things of what can/should be done on Juneteenth.
