So my brother is a Reds fan and we've been talking about them over the last couple days.
Reds have made a nice surge and sit at 43-40 with some interesting pieces at both the plate and on the mound. They have some decisions to make so we'll see what they do in the offseason, but with their recent surge, they are in some desperate need of relief pitching.
The 3 potential suitors I mentioned earlier are all still there...nobody is really doing anything in the NL East so the Braves and Phils still need some help and the Angels want to keep trying....but the Reds have dropped to 29th in MLB and between injury and terrible performance, they desperately need some help. Given a number of factors, cost and service controlled guys would likely be their targets.
The interesting target for me would be Nick Senzel. They have some roster management to do to try and make things fit and both Moustakas and Senzel are sort of odd guys out.
Senzel got pushed to the OF (he's not an OFer) and they've pushed him all over the diamond but he doesn't develop any real value for them in any of those roles. He wants to play everyday, he can't play everyday there, so move him for real needs and compete. He's under 2 years of service and should be back (injury) at the end of the month. Orioles would likely put him back at AAA to reacclimate to everyday 3B with the projection as starting there in 2022. Even if he hits Super-2 service, he's generally under-performed to date so he probably doesn't get much over 1M, if even that.
Plutko would actually be one of the Reds best relievers today and let them pick between Scott and Fry. Maybe throw in a back-30 guy as a MiL piece like Darrell Herniaz or Joey Ortiz.
So maybe something like (or variation of)...
Fry, Plutko and Herniaz for Senzel.
That bundles up some lesser incremental value and targets need (Reds) and availability (Senzel).
Senzel is a former top 3B prospect that hasn't gotten the opportunity (Suarez) that he should have gotten earlier.
