Wonder why...

I am surprised about that, thought maybe they would have released Adams or put Thome on the 60 day DL.

I thought maybe we would have seen Berken up in Spetember.

I really don't agree but the Orioles under DD are not afraid to make decisions.

It's a shame. He seems like a really good guy. He's just not a good enough pitcher.

I think there's only one question that Buck and DD ask themselves during these situations:

Can this guy help us at the major league level?

It seems clear ever since his failed appearance early in the year that the answer for Berken is no.

Good Post...I think your right about the question, and frankly that should be the question they ask about everyone.

We may not always like them but the Orioles, DD and Buck are not afraid to make tough decisions.

I'll root for him over there. I think he can be a solid ML reliever.

I'll always remember him as the guy who took a lot of beatings for the team. When they were waiting for the cavalry to get enough MiL experience to not get too beat up whenever they called them up, Jason Berken got called up in 2009 to take the beatings instead of them. And, boy, did he ever get beat up. He never whined and he never cringed. He just focused on getting better. There were more than several times when Palmer spoke about how highly he thought of the guy for the focus he had, for all the work he did and all the progress he made, even though he was getting thrown to the lions.

That made me especially happy to see him do better in 2010. Not sure what happened with him after that, but I was bummed about it, whatever it was, mainly because he earned some good luck. If they gave out purple hearts for the mental part of baseball, he'd have a chest full of them for 2009. I hope good things happen to the guy. Of all the guys who have earned a stretch of good fortune, he's certainly one of them.

I'm pretty certain he'll never read this, but if he does, I'd like him to know I appreciate what he did.
