Nice, should be a good for both of them. Schoop could really benefit if he can learn anything from Hoes about plate discipline. He never really picked up much from Machado in that regard though, so I think we'll just have to hope for some small advances as he matures there rather than any significant leaps forward.

I saw Ward as well in Roch's tweet. The interesting four are obviously Schoop, Hoes, Wright, and Schrader.

Good crop going to AFL this year.

The pitchers might be some of the better arms over there honestly. Wright, Schrader especially. I like Belfiore too, although some might think his ceiling is just of a LOOGY.

Hoes and Schoop get some more work in, which is always good.
Ward is the taxi squad guy, but he is a great mind and a person for pitchers to pick the brain of. It's no secret that he works well with the pitching staff.

Stats are essentially irrelevant in the AFL, so just think of it as a place for some more growth for these guys

Is there any kind of consensus about what everybody expects of Schoop? re: both ability and timeline... or do folks have widely differing opinions?

Its a bit more conservative right now. Could be anywhere from a utility guy to a solid inf with some pop.

I'm excited to see what Schoop does next year as a 21 y/o who will be getting his second taste of upper level pitching. Double-A can be such a tough jump because the off-speed and breaking stuff is so much better than in A-ball and the pitch sequencing is a lot more advanced. Schoop was pushed aggressively to Double-A and didn't have much of a spring training, leading to some ugly numbers in April. Take out April and he's probably got an OPS above league average. I still really like Schoop; not sure what others think. I've heard others say they think Delmonico is a better prospect than Schoop; I think that's nuts.

Yeah, calling Delmonico better seems like a difficult argument to make right now. Delmonico has a .762 OPS at Delmarva, and was born 7/12/92.

Schoop has a .697 OPS in the Eastern League, and was born 10/16/91.

I still have a lot of confidence in Schoop producing offensively at the ML level, and still have a lot of questions about him at either 3rd or 2nd.

I'd like to hear about him spending additional time with Bordick or something, and I'd prefer him to stay at 2nd vs. being moved back to 3rd.

I think he has a decent chance to play his way to the bigs by the middle of next year; especially if the O's go into '13 with Andino / Q / Flaherty / Roberts at the options at 2nd. If they add someone else, could become more difficult for Schoop to ascend.

Ultimately, I think there is a very good chance that Schoop is traded this Winter.

One of the reasons for moving him back to shortstop once Machado was promoted instead of honing his craft at second base could have been to showcase him as a shortstop to other teams for offseason trade talks.
