Season 5 has been such garbage so far. It's sad cause I was digging 1-4.

It's turned into House of Cards where there isn't anyone likeable, among the main characters that is.
Rip is a fantastic character though. If he wasn't in the show, I'd have been out a while back.
The white-collar side of the show has gone way downhill, while the blue-collar guys and girls in the bunkhouse side of the show is great TV.

Rip is unquestionable the best character.
Loved Jimmy's arc too.

I thought 1883 was pretty great.
Gonna watch True Detective and maybe Griselda before I start 1923.
I did see that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren play different Duttons than the ones portrayed by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill in 1883. I thought that was kinda dumb. I thought they'd play the older 1883 characters.

Spent the break finishing Yellowstone and getting caught up on 1883 and 1923, which I hadn't watched at all until now. Really enjoyed 1883 other than Faith Hill who I thought was pretty awful. 1923 was a mixed bag - loved all the scenes with Harrison Ford and especially Helen Mirren, and the suspense with Spencer coming home. The rest of it didn't grab me. But Mirren's character I thought was fantastic.

I dunno, part of a great show is you don't have to LOVE the characters to be in, sometimes you HATE the characters and have to turn in waiting for them to get their just desserts. I don't know if there's a character I hated more on TV ever than Jamie. Beth was irritating a lot of the time, but at least she was pretty amusing. I did really like Casey though, I thought he was really the main character from the jump. He stayed true to his character in that from when we met him he didn't care about the money, and walked away from it. I thought the way things ended lined up with what we knew of him from the start, which is hard to do these days.
I do find myself hoping a few of this cast make it into the spinoff. I think they have it set up to where it's Jimmy, Teeter, Rip and Beth that will be. I'll be interested to see what they can do plot wise besides, here's some cowboys, watch them do cowboy like things.

Interesting. I thought Jamie was treated pretty horribly and then ultimately just said screw it, if you're going to treat me this badly anyway I might as well be the bad guy you say I am. Agree that by the end he was a terrible guy but they pushed him to that IMO.

I really thought Beth's character was weak. Same one note every episode.
To be fair, I gave up on the show before last season.
Maybe I'll go back and watch the rest.

I agree regarding Beth. And her reason for hating Jamie so much just never clicked for me. He was what, 16 or 17 at the time? He didn't know what he was doing either. I think the show tried to play that anti-hero line, where these are flawed characters but some are more "right" than others, but especially towards the end they lost that a bit.
It was a bit of a chore to get through but I wanted to see it through. They resolved things well enough.

I thought the final season was decent. Costner's departure actually forced the writers to push the plot forward after being in cruise control for years. Liked the finale.
I doubt I'll keep up with whatever spinoffs they crank out next. I'm fine leaving the show where it is.

I thought season 5 was awful. Piper Perabo's character and storyline was so cringe, and it lost a lot of the charm when he became governor. I think the second half had some more satisfying moments, but it was all disappointing after how great the earlier seasons were.
I hope they don't spin it off. As much as I love Rip, and as much as I enjoyed Jimmy's story arc, this crew can't carry a show. I'm hoping the Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer spinoff rumors are true.
