From the '08 season on, he has played in just 23 games, and has only 5 sacks in that time.

Merriman was a beast in his prime, but I don't know if he has anything left. I guess I would not mind bringing him for a look.
From the '08 season on, he has played in just 23 games, and has only 5 sacks in that time.
I HATE to say this, cause Shawne is a great dude, but looking at the production before suspension and after scares me to death. The first thing I thought was bringing him back to one of the MD teams would make me happy, but the more I look at it the less sure I am.

I don't know if he would help or not. But you can't exclude him because of the steroid suspension. The guy got caught doing what a HUGE number of NFL players do.
Yes but if the steroids were why he was good and why he is terrible since then you have to consider it. He never really seemed like a juice head at school though...some other guys were though.

We could use the pass rush thats for sure. Going back to the last 6 or so games last year, I think it was after the Thanksgiving game, it felt like we failed to get good pressure on the QB.

10, 10, 34 (SD Debacle), 14, 16, 13, 23. It's not like our defense was getting torched. That's 17 per game including the SD game.
Sacks per game: 3, 4, 0, 2, 1, 0, 3. So you may be onto something about the pass rush. But given the results, I'd be more interested to look at hurries and QB hits before I'd make any full commentary on how the pass rush looked.
