Vinny and Rob both think the Orioles made the decision days ago to promote Machado in order to steal the spotlight from the Ravens tonight.

They don't blame the O's for it, rather, they're praising them for it.

Thoughts?? I think its a pretty wild stretch, but I do agree with them that a lot of people will be flipping the channels tonight rather than just solely watching football.

I think the Orioles are trying to get to the playoffs, plain and simple. You and I exchanged post last night saying we were going to working the DVR and the remotes but I do not htink this is a devious plan by the Orioles to steal attention.
I think they did it now for a few reasons.
1. His bat is hot and his confidence is probably way up.
2. KC is not exactly the Nationals with their starting pitching. They probably feel he can get some hits and get settled in.
3. The team is surging, and this may feed the fire.
4. They are sick of watching Betemit play 3rd base. he is terrible.

Fun time to be a Baltimore Sports fan right now.

WNST's Glenn Clark argued the same thing: http://wnst.net/word...lsy-move-birds/

I think that position is pretty out there. Machado is up because the O's believe he improves the roster as a whole.

Never heard of Glenn Clark before and I am not sure what he does at the station but "perhaps" there are some at that station who are not exactly thrilled at the teams upturn.
I am shocked that machado is here, but I think it is a long stretch to think that the Orioles would use one of the top prospects in all the game to take away from a Ravens pre-season game.

If the Orioles are promoting players based on the Ravens activity, we have bigger problems than any of us imagined.

But they aren't.

So nothing to see here.. ;)

Cerrato is an idiot. I swear that if I was the owner of an NFL team looking for a GM I would hire half this board, with nothing even close to experience or a competent resume, before I would hire him.

I don't mind Vinny regarding football but he is lacking on baseball knowledge to say the least. I suspect both NST and "The Fan" are using the Orioles vs. Ravens angle to make for lit up phone lines. Nothing wrong with that.
Once again, I just do not see the Orioles using manny to jab the Ravens.
They are being bold in an effort to make the playoffs. If they sell some extra tickets, then good for them.

Please. Too soon.

I still remember him covering the 2010 draft on-air for 105.7 and laughing about how the Redskins had no WRs.

All thanks to...you guessed it, Vinny Cerrato!

Anyone who thinks Machado was called up to draw attention from the Ravens is an idiot. Period.

I highly doubt it, if this move happened before the Ravens/Steelers opener last year then I might. Or if the Orioles were out of the race. I still think the Ravens game will beat the O's game in the ratings b/c football is king and this one move is going to get all those casual fans suddenly interested IMO, but it should be closer.

Exactly. We're now 9 games over .500 and are trying to fill the black hole that is third base. Machado is on fire, they must think he's at least close to being ML ready.

Just horrible, seriously I don't care if there is only 20 listeners there needs to be talk radio catered to smart fans with smart hosts. Or perhaps more podcasts. (hint,hint.....wink,wink)

Not suggesting that I fit that bill, in fact a lot of folks here would argue the opposite. I am blessed to have lots of great guests though. Here's some interesting stuff from today (IMHO):

Steve Johnson on his big night - http://bit.ly/NL6UzS

Jay Jaffe on Pythagoras and the Orioles - http://bit.ly/NLTZh1

Gary Kendall on Machado's departure and Bundy's arrival - http://bit.ly/NMpojE

Sound quality leaves a bit to be desired...hope it's not too bad.
