This is something that I haven't seen before, but I'm not surprised its something Bill James came up with.

CYP: In The Neyer/James Guide To Pitchers -- co-authored by Bill James and ESPN.com's Rob Neyer presents a method, based on past results, to predict Cy Young balloting. This page provides an in-season snapshot of the Cy Young "race," as figured by the following formula: Cy Young Points (CYP) = ((5*IP/9)-ER) + (SO/12) + (SV*2.5) + Shutouts + ((W*6)-(L*2)) + VB (see below).

Relievers have become less likely to win the Cy, but according to history Rodney has the 4th best chance while Johnson has the 8th. JJ is below Felix Hernandez and above Soriano and CC Sabathia. Just something kinda cool I thought to share.

Unless Weaver or Verlander completely tank in the last two months, they are the sure-fire choices for AL Cy Young, but this is stil pretty neat.

Unless a reliever is beyond dominant and likewise there is no very elite starter, I think it has to go to a starter from just the amount of innings pitched alone. It's a lot harder to replace an elite starter than an elite closer IMO. That's not to say Johnson doesn't have value, but if he was capable(in the Orioles opinion) of being a starter, he would be.
