Of yeah, much of the area to the north is pretty crappy, no doubt about that. I would advocate clearing a large section of that area and turning into a significant downtown park.

MASL ANNOUNCES CONFERENCE AND DIVISION ALIGNMENTS FOR 2017-2018

 

KANSAS CITY (September 19, 2017) – The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today the divisional and conference alignments for the upcoming 2017-2018 season. The MASL enters its fourth season with an eye towards further stability and long-term growth.

 

Over the last three seasons, the league has taken measures to stabilize and grow the league and heads into the 2017-2018 season with a roster of at least 24 teams in the MASL pyramid, including an expected 8-12 teams in the newly formed MASL2.

 

With many teams having already released dates for their respective home-openers, the full 2017-2018 MASL schedule is set to be released in the next week. The league will be split into an Eastern and Western Conference with two divisions in each conference.

 

The schedule will highlight both traditional and regional rivalries, putting more importance on each regular season victory.

The MASL is excited about the return of the RGV Barracudas and Monterrey Flash to the schedule, with the first Canadian franchise set to begin play in Toronto in 2018-2019. In addition, the Kansas City Comets will remain in the MASL 1st Division after an offseason restructuring of the team’s ownership and management. Commissioner Joshua Schaub will continue to explore options for further league expansion in future seasons.

The Chicago Mustangs have elected to play this season in the brand new MASL2. This new league will be focused on discovering and developing arena soccer players in a competitive atmosphere, while expanding the reach of arena soccer across North America. Atletico Baja is exploring the option of playing in MASL2 while they reorganize their operations as well. The Dallas Sidekicks will be inactive for the 2017-2018 season, but the team is already working with the league and the Allen Event Center to make the Sidekicks return in 2018-2019 a smooth one.

It has been years since I went to a game, but the Towson arena is less than 2 miles from my house, so might take in a few.

BLAST ANNOUNCE 2017-2018 SCHEDULE

BLAST SET TO DEFEND RON NEWMAN CUP

Baltimore – The Baltimore Blast released its 2017-2018 season schedule today with the team hosting the Cedar Rapids Rampage on November 10th to open the season. The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) will feature 16 teams each playing a 22-game slate.  Baltimore will play in the Eastern Division along with Florida, Harrisburg, and Syracuse. Blast opponents from outside the division include Cedar Rapids, Ontario, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Milwaukee.

The Blast are looking forward to their move to SECU Arena at Towson University. It is a beautiful new arena on a safe campus with great site lines. Parking is free (included in the ticket price) and it is easy to enter and exit the arena. Concessions will be less expensive and more plentiful. The Blast will be holding an open house at SECU Arena on Saturday, October 7th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Fans are welcome to see the arena with the field in place and have an opportunity to buy season tickets.

Keeping with the Baltimore Blast tradition of affordable family entertainment, fans will be treated to various promotional nights throughout the season which will be announced at a later date. Promotional nights throughout the season include youth t-shirt night, mini soccer ball night, Hall of Fame night, bobble head night, first responder’s appreciation, Boy and Girl scouts nights, cancer awareness, and more.

The Blast will play Friday home games at 7:35p.m. and this season Saturday’s kickoff will be at 6:05p.m., while Sunday’s home games have been moved to 3:05p.m.

Season tickets and mini plans for the 2017-2018 Blast season are currently available, while single-game tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale October 9th.  Season tickets and mini plans are available through the Blast office at 410-73-BLAST (410-732-5278).  Single-game tickets will be available at all TicketMaster outlets including TicketMaster at 410-547-SEAT.  Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com or through the Blast office.

The Baltimore Blast announce their promotions and giveaways for the 2017-2018 season. The giveaways include replica jersey t-shirts featuring Blast defender Adriano Dos Santos, mini ball night, and a bobble head giveaway honoring last season’s postseason MVP, Vini Dantas.    

Promotional nights including a Championship Ring Ceremony, Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Education is a Blast game, and Fan Appreciation are listed below. The dates of the Cancer Awareness night, First Responders night, and Archdiocese of Baltimore night will be added at a date to be determined.

Blast Defeat Wave 6-5

Clinch a spot in the playoffs

 

The Blast clinched a spot in the playoffs by defeating Milwaukee 6-5. In front of a crowd of 3,476, Vini Dantas recorded two goals for the Blast and Tony Donatelli got the game-winning goal with 7 seconds left. Ian Bennett had two goals for the Wave.

 

Vini Dantas got on the board first for the Blast with a free-kick goal on the power play. Milwaukee answered two minutes later on a goal by Guilherme Vega to tie the game at 1. Goalkeeper Joey Kapinos made some big saves for the Blast to keep the game tied at 1 after one quarter. Milwaukee was able to break through with two straight goals in the second quarter. Daniel Chamale scored just 28 seconds into the quarter and Ricardinho Sobreira scored to give the Wave a 3-1 lead at halftime.

The Blast came out of the half strong, scoring four straight goals and playing tight defense.  Goals from Jonatas Melo, Andrew Hoxie, Jereme Raley, and Vini Dantas gave the Blast a 5-3 lead. Ian Bennett would answer for Milwaukee with two straight goals of his own, tying the game at 5-5 with 22 seconds left. Tony Donatelli quickly answered with the winning goal with just 7 seconds remaining.

 

The win is the 9th straight win for the Blast. The Blast went 1-2 on the power play and were 1-1 on the penalty kill. Donatelli had one goal and one assist and Kapinos had 20 saves for Baltimore. Veiga had one goal and one assist and Max Ferdinand recorded two assists for Milwaukee. Goalkeeper Josh Lemos had 6 saves for the Wave.

 

The Blast are back in action with 2 games next weekend. They travel to Cedar Rapids on Friday, February 16th to take on the Rampage at 8:35 pm EST and then travel to Milwaukee on Saturday, February 17th to take on the Wave at 8:05 p.m. EST. Both games can be streamed at MASL.tv or on the MASL app.

The 2018 MASL Ron Newman Cup Playoffs begin on Thursday, March 8th.

 

The Blast travel to Syracuse on Thursday, March 8th at 7:05 p.m. EST for Game 1 of the Eastern Divisional Championship.

Game Two will be Sunday, March 11th at 5:05 p.m. at SECU Arena at Towson University.

2018 RON NEWMAN CUP SET FOR MARCH 25, 2018
BETWEEN MONTERREY FLASH AND BALTIMORE BLAST

KANSAS CITY (March 19, 2017) – Following the completion of the Eastern and Western Conference Finals this past weekend, the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced the schedule for the 2018 Ron Newman Cup Championship. The Monterrey Flash, as the owners of the league’s best regular season record, will host the Baltimore Blast on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 5:05 p.m. CST/ 7:05 p.m. EST.

The Blast have reached the finals in 10 of their last 11 seasons, winning five championships (2008, 2009, 2013, 2016, and 2017) during that period. This will be the third time the Blast have played Monterrey in the championship. The Blast defeated Monterrey in 2008 and lost to the Flash in the 2015 MASL title game. There are eighteen players from that 2015 game on this year’s rosters, with each team returning nine players. The Blast have won 8 championships in the last 15 years, and are seeking their 10th overall championship on Sunday.

As part of the Championship Week festivities, the MASL will host a Press Conference on Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time/ 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. At the press conference, Commissioner Joshua Schaub will speak on the state of the league, award the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors.

On Sunday, fans of arena soccer can enjoy a full day of Championship excitement on MASLtv. The MASL’s developmental league, MASL2 (M2), will broadcast the inaugural M2 Third Place Game at 10:30 a.m. Central Standard Time and the Championship game at 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time.

Blast Win 3rd Straight MASL Championship

Defeat Monterrey 4-3

 

The Blast won their third straight championship after defeating the Flash 4-3 in Monterrey. In front of a crowd of 8,220, the Blast used a strong defensive effort and good goalkeeping to complete their three-peat. Blast goalkeeper William Vanzela was named Championship MVP.

 

The Blast came out strong in the first half, scoring three unanswered goals. Vini Dantas got on the board first to give the Blast a 1-0 lead after the 1st quarter. Andrew Hoxie scored and Daniel Peruzzi added a power play goal with 52 seconds left in the half to take a 3-0 lead. The Blast defense limited Monterrey’s scoring chances, and the game went to halftime at 3-0.

The teams would trade goals to start the second half, with each team scoring off a free-kick restart. Edgar Gonzalez scored for Monterrey and Juan Pereira scored for the Blast to give the Blast a 4-1 lead. Monterrey came back with two straight goals in the fourth quarter. Efrain Martinez and Lourenco Andrade scored for the Flash to make the game interesting. The Blast defense was able to hold off the late Monterrey rally for a 4-3 win.

The Blast went 1-2 on the power play and Monterrey did not have a power play opportunity. Pat Healey recorded two assists in the game for Baltimore. Carlos Farias, Miguel Vaca, and Armando Teran each had an assist for Monterrey.

The Baltimore Blast are pleased to announce a special arena soccer game, brought to you by MedStar Sports Medicine, the Official Medical Team of the Baltimore Blast. The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, 2018at SECU Arena on the campus of Towson University.  The three time Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) defending champion Baltimore Blast will be playing the Canadian National Arena Soccer Team. The game time for this special event is 7:05 P.M.


The Canadian National Team is preparing for the WMF Arena Soccer World Championship in October in Sonora, Mexico.  In preparation, the Canadian National Team has a series of games versus the USA Team and the Mexican National Team.  The game at Towson is another game to prepare for their goal of winning the WMF Arena Soccer World Championship.

The Canadian National Team is comprised of several all-star players from the MASL.  Coached by Giuliano Oliviero of the Milwaukee Wave, their roster tentatively includes Ian Bennett and Josh Lemos from the Wave along with outstanding midfielder Vahid Assadpour formerly of the Kansas City Comets among other notable names. An official roster will be announced within the next two weeks.

Blast owner, Ed Hale, said, “The Baltimore Blast are excited to play the Canadian National Team on August 4th at 7:05. This is the beginning of our back-to-back-to-back championship title defense. This represents a USA vs. Canada game which is timely. The Canadians have a great team and will be a formidable opponent with many familiar players.”

 Tickets for this event at SECU Arena will be priced the same as a MASL game with individual tickets priced at $50, $40, $30, $28 and $23. Individual tickets will go on sale on Friday, July 6. Tickets will be available at ticketmaster.com or by contacting the Blast office at 410-732-5278.

The defending champion Baltimore Blast welcome former player Lee Tschantret as a Color Commentator for online broadcasts of Blast games on MASL-TV.  Lee played for the Blast from 2000 - 2007, winning 3 championships. He will start his new commentating duties at the Blast Home Opener against the Mississauga MetroStars on December 1 at 6:00pm ET at the SECU Arena. 

 

Baltimore Blast Vice President of Soccer Operations, Mike Conway, said “Lee was a pro here for us on and off the field.  He helped us win 3 Championships. He will bring an inside knowledge of the game to our broadcast that the fans should enjoy.  We are excited about Lee joining our broadcast team.” 

 

Tschantret still ranks 6th on the modern day Blast scoring list with 123 goals and 125 assist. he is currently the Varsity Coach at Loyola Blakefield and Technical Director for Pipeline Soccer Club.

Baltimore Players to Watch:
The Blast will return many of their core players this season as they look to win another championship. Tony Donatelli returns after leading the Blast in points last season. Vini Dantas ranked 2nd in goals scored for the Blast but is a player to watch towards the end of the game, as he accumulated 4 game-winning goals last season. William Vanzela, who led the league in save percentage last season and was the 2018 Championship Series MVP, returns as the Blast goalkeeper.

 

Midfielder Jonatas Melo will look to pull the strings in midfield while defender Adriano Dos Santos will anchor an impressive defense. Defender Marco Nasicmento will look to build upon his 2017-18 All-MASL Rookie Team campaign. Forward Lucas Roque has been ruled out of tonight’s contest with a knee injury. Head coach Danny Kelly leads the Blast towards their 11th championship.

 

The Competition- Mississauga MetroStars
The MetroStars will look to make their mark on the MASL in their first game in the league. Dwayne De Rosario, the Canadian Men’s National Team all-time leading goal scorer, will lead the MetroStars attack. Former Toronto FC players Molham Babouli will look to assist De Rosario in spearheading the attack while Adrian Cann will lead a stalwart defense. The MetroStars are coached by Phil Ionadi.

 

The Competition- Utica City FC
Utica City are looking to start their season with a win in their new home of Adirondack Bank Center. Formerly the Syracuse Silver Knights, Utica City will use many of last season’s Syracuse players to challenge the rest of the league. The Utica City front-line is led by 2017-18 All-MASL 2nd team forward Joey Tavernese, who led the Syracuse Silver Knights in goals, assists, and points in the 2017-2018 season. Alongside Tavernese will be Slavisa Ubiparipovic, who ranked 2nd on the Syracuse Silver Knights in goals, assists, and points.

 

The defense will be led by 2017-18 All-MASL 3rd team defender Darren Toby, who ranked 3rd in the
league last year in blocked shots with 34. Defender Ben Ramin will provide points from defense as he
ranked 1st among Syracuse defenders last year in points. Utica City FC is coached by Ryan Hall.

Whenever they eventually demolish the Civic Center, they should bring in the muscled up Blast mascot to ignite the TNT with that big box.

Baltimore, Maryland (September 30, 2019) – The Baltimore Blast have announced their 2019-2020 regular season schedule. The schedule consists of 24 games, with 12 being played at home and 12 played away from home. The Blast will welcome familiar and not-so-familiar teams to the SECU Arena this upcoming season.

 

The Baltimore Blast open the 2019-2020 season at home on Friday November 22, 2019 at 7:35 PM against Utica City FC. The Blast will then travel to Utica for the first away game that Sunday. The Blast will feature two home contests in the month of December against the Mississauga Metrostars on December 7, 2019 and Utica City FC on December 14, 2019. The Blast finish off 2019 with four away games in nine days, including a trip down to Florida against the Seawolves and Tropics, as well as a trip to old rivals Rochester and another trip to Utica.

 

January brings about a new year, as well as a new set of opponents. The Blast will play Soles de Sonora for the first time since the Blast’s victory over Sonora in the 2016-2017 MASL Championship. For the first time since 2015, the Blast will face off against the San Diego Sockers on Saturday January 25, 2020. February brings about a month of five Blast home games, featuring Rochester’s return to Baltimore on Saturday February 8, 2020. The Blast finish off the regular season home schedule with a March 7, 2020 matchup against local rival Harrisburg. The Blast conclude the regular season with three consecutive away games, featuring a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Final against the Milwaukee Wave on March 15, 2020.
