I think as long as were alive, every game/series is a "big" one and to many it seems like the most *important* one. But I feel like that devalues the games at the same point when every single is being called that. Can we really refer to the KC/Seattle (at home) games/series as the most important game/series of the year?

All that being said, I do feel like watching every game now as it's relevant and not just for the other team(see Game 162). And even when I can't watch the games like yesterday when I'm in transit (I was not driving ftr), I find myself constantly checking the score and doing so with real interest.

I agree that no one game or series is crazy important.

We could go 6-1 this week and then still finish below .500 or go 2-5 and still come back and make the playoffs.

It's all about putting yourself in good position, though, and taking advantage of good opportunities. This week isn't a must-win week, but we will have a much greater chance of making a late run if we have a real good week.

As I said, I think it's the biggest win TO DATE. That doesn't mean that the second weekend of September against NY might not be bigger, or that last series against Tampa. You all are right in that they're all big, and they all count just as much. Just my view, but given the standings (wild card and division) and how everyone's bunched together I felt this series was must-win.

And if they hadn't won yesterday, they would've been out of the playoff hunt?

In the scheme of things, yesterday's win was a little bigger than most since it was a division game against a team were close to in the standings. Hard for me to call it a must-win, which gets used way too much in sports to begin with, should be a much less used term in baseball.

There's 162 games, the only must win games is when your back is literally against the wall, like Game 162 for the Red Sox last year and some would argue that game wasn't as big as I'm making it since winning another game would've prevented this situation.

It's not power rankings or a committee that decides the playoffs like college sports do.

For a team that may have players that can't remember far enough back to the last winning season, it's not unusual to think the last important game that we won, especially if close or in some exiting fashion, is the greatest one thus far. I think the Sox victory with Davis pitching was the best from a fans perspective, but as a team, the last good one, is the latest one.

In Dom's defense, I think there's a difference between most "important" and "biggest" win. And it seems to me he's trying to argue more of the former.

Bigggest to me implies the best, most thrilling win. While important is a game you needed to win more than the others.

As I've stated, I'm not so big on "important" wins atleast not at this point of the season. I think sure, some games are more important than others, beating Tampa Bay means more than beating Minnesota because of a potential tiebreaker scenario, but in the scheme of things it wasn't that "important."

I completely agree. Just saying, the most important one is a moving target... as you get closer to the finish line.

As we get closer to the end there will hopefully be more important wins than this. Does this game count any more or less than the win on April 7th against Minnesota? Of course not (other than the fact that it's a division game of course). But putting it in the context of the standings, I think it was a key win. And no, the Orioles wouldn't have been out of the playoff hunt had they lost, just as Tampa is not right now. Obviously this wasn't an exhilirating victory such as the Davis victory in Boston or game 162 last year, however in the grand scheme of this season to date I think it was the most important.

Also I'd add it's a little easier to possibly point to a single game after the season. The truth of the matter is the most important game(not win) will be the last game where we are relevant in and/or gets us in or out of the playoffs(and possibly positioning). Until then, every game is more important to the next with the way things are weighted for the most part but games being played against teams that should finish with similar records have additional weight in the event of a tie.

I can go for the "key win" much moreso than I can go for the "must win."
