What a brutal loss. So many opportunities blown. Frankly, I didn't even like punting it that first drive. Dixon is a ton of fun to watch.

Os and Ravens seasons ended pretty damn bad.

Otoh, the Os were in the playoffs and the Ravens played meaningful games at the end of the year.

Certainly a lot of fan bases that wish they could say that.

Play Mallett in cincy. This needs to be a tradition.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Dixon is exciting...West is good too.

I like what we have going forward there.

Dixon and West are good enough that we don't need to think about drafting any RBs but piggybacking off my post in the other thread they aren't playmakers either.

I'm not sure that is true about Dixon.

However, I will say that I don't think they are the type of guys that you say they can score from anytime they touch the ball.

If that is how you are defining it, I agree...but I don't think a playmaker has to be that.

Here's my non-biased take on the issue.

O's were in the play-in, not play-off.  :)

Yeah, our city could be worse off. But could also be much better off. If you came into the season thinking the Ravens would win 5 games, your happy I guess. If the expectation is playoffs given what you pay the quarterback and the resume of the head coach, its pretty damn sad.

This still sucks.

I know it's dumb, but if Juice had just gone down at the 1....then try to punch it in and leave them with only 30 seconds or so instead.

Eh, they'd have figured out a way to score against our pussy D anyway...

Onto baseball season!

That crossed my mind for a second. But you got to score. If they stop there to eat up time then fumble, or not get in at all, it would be way worse. You gotta have a defensive plan to not allow a TD drive in 70 seconds with your season on the line.

I've been saying all year this wasn't some special defense and I feel I've been validated. A good defense no doubt. But a special defense doesn't have "4th quarter collapse" as a common characteristic.

Full disclosure, I'm not fully rational yet. Fucking Steelers. Man we've had some gut wrenching losses there, but none top this. Should've won.

I guess it depends on how you define special. It was never going to be an all time great defense or anything. But it's clearly a top 5 defense in the league this year.

Your point about collapses has merit though. My only comeback to that is I think coaching and scheme had to do with it.

I also think when you look back on some of our late collapses, you see a pattern...last night, the Hogan TD, the giants game...to some extent the Dallas game.

The common thread there is we were beaten late through the air...and Jimmy Smith wasn't on the field for any of it.

Now, im not saying we definitely win those games if Smith plays...but I do feel very good saying that we are in way better shape in those games if he is on the field.

He's so vital this team because while we have a good starting 4 in the secondary, there is that drop off after that.

Wright and Powers would be fine as 4th and 5th corners. The Ravens lack that third solid corner...that guy that can start and you feel good about that.

Now, how many teams can say they have 2 very good corners to start and that third guy? I don't know but you either need that third guy or you need a better pass rush.

Last night, we only got pressure on Ben 5 times...now, some of that is that they have a good Oline but a lot of it we just haven't generated enough pressure. Jernigan has really gone silent in the last several games.

I'm still angry. Regardless of the defense at the end of the game, you make ONE play, and all of it is meaningless. All of it.

And yet...

I don't care what anybody says, and I don't care if it was Antonio Brown, and that they won; that was a dumb, dumb play call.

Worst loss in regular season history?

If not, it's top 3 for sure.

In the sense of pure ramifications and who dealt the blow, it has to be #1. The only other one I can think of that can be close is the loss to Cleveland in...I can't remember the year (I feel like it may have been 1999 or 2002) where we were essentially eliminated with a loss. But even then, we had the smallest sliver of hope, and were still scoreboard-watching in week 17.

That was 2002, I was there.

Probably. Blowing a 17 pt 4th Q home lead to the Bengals in '04 was really bad. Cost us a playoff spot.

Yea, I have avoided posting because I am pissed.  So many what if plays.

The play to Brown was stupid but it worked.  He was stopped but his hands were free and he got across the goal line-dammit.  If he is stopped short, I think it is very unlikely that they get another play off

So much to be mad about.

Waller-catch the damn ball.

The botched snap..

The penalties forcing FG's

Anyway the season was probably lost in the losing streak.  We needed to win one of the tough to win games, battled in each one, but did not get it done.

The Steelers are not better than us.  They have two playmakers though and they  got it done.  Barely.
