I was just curious as to if the trade deadline has changed anyone's opinions on Duquette.

For me - I'm in the "No - I still need to see more" camp. I have to admit, given what he gave up for Eveland, Teagarden and Thome, I was a little concerned that he would be over the top when dealing for a truly valuable piece (like Headley). Meaning, a month ago, I thought he might do something stupid like trade Manny. I thought he might cave under the pressure of being just a couple games out, and make some head scratching moves; IE: Soriano, Garza, Dempster, Blanton, etc..

As it turned out, he was maybe a little too much on the conservative side. That being said, IMHO, we're not privy to all of the information that he is. Maybe RP is working magic on BMat and Jake, who knows. Either way, there's a logical argument for not giving up the rumored pieces for Headley.

what say you? Did standing pat change your opinion one way or the other?

Absolutely not..

I'm probably in the minority here, but besides Headley, I didn't expect or really want them to do anything.

Let's look at the situation again in a month.

Yeah, all I really wanted in Headley.

I'm encouraged by:
-Not over paying for anything
-Not going crazy and keeping our top guys
-Not getting dead weight in here like Blanton
-Not going after rentals just because we're 2 games out of the WC

My answer:

No - jury's still out

I've seen things I like and things I don't from Duquette. Need to see more to figure out if I think he's an asset or a burden for the organization, or something more neutral. I think it's likely that it doesn't matter who the GM is as long as Angelos is still breathing, but perhaps a big offseason that shows a willingness to go above about $80M in payroll would do some to dispel my skepticism.

Judging by the results to date, I feel like Duquette knows more about running a baseball team than I do.
¡Hasta la vista, pelota!
