Idiotic. That is it.

This rumor doesn't make any sense, as such, I'll choose to believe it is inaccurate.

Thome didn't make much sense either.Don't we have enough average-hitting 1B types already?

He made more sense than Lyle Overbay does.

I'm just pointing out that things don't need to make a ton of sense for DD.He made more sense than Lyle Overbay does.

So should we assume that Thome is headed to the DL? Or is one of the CI's about to be traded?
None really have any trade value. If he heats up you could see Reynolds moved next month, but I think Thome is done for the year, Davis will stay in LF which could in theory open up some PT for Overbay. They are serious about improving OBP right now.

What about his average w/ RISP? THAT is where we need help IMO!

Agree completely, which will come with high average hitters. Unfortunately team MO is OBP focused and not AVG focused, so that's not necessarily going to change.

Walks with RISP will lead to more PAs with RISP. Even if the average doesn't improve, the total runs scored would.Agree completely, which will come with high average hitters. Unfortunately team MO is OBP focused and not AVG focused, so that's not necessarily going to change.

Just seems like a waste.

You don't trade for something that isn't really a skill. You can trade for good hitters and expect that they'll also be good hitters with RISP, but there's no point in trading for someone who is hitting better with RISP than he does otherwise because that is in all likelyhood, just a statistical variance that will come back to the norm at some point.

Hit tool is a skill. Can't BB in every run. Whether RISP or not, more hit tool = more hits.

I think that's what I said just with a clarification that hitting in RISP vs how one normally hits is generally not a skill.

Overbay vs RHP - .859 OPS
Reynolds vs LHP - 866 OPS
Granted, these are both SSS. And I wouldn't give up anything of value for Overbay who was DFA'ed. But it could give us some stability at 1B for the remainder of the year.
