A lot of these will hinge on whether the Big Ten gets 1 or 2 teams in the Playoff. If it's just one, the Quick Lane Bowl is a likely destination. But if it's 2, everyone gets bumped up a notch, and I could see them playing in the Pinstripe Bowl or something else a few days after Christmas.

It's also worth noting that Maryland is one of three 6-6 teams in the Big Ten (Indiana and Northwestern are the others). So it'll be interesting to see how they divide those lower bowls up. Indiana has beaten Maryland, but lost to Northwestern.

Do any of the 6-6 teams have fans who will travel to a bowl in large numbers?

A bowl in NYC area would have a decent amount of MD fans IMO

Yeah, that's why I'm thinking the Pinstripe Bowl could be a likely destination (Yankee Stadium). I could maybe, possibly see myself going up for that one since I'm taking that whole week off work.

Since the Big Ten now has just 1 team in the CFP, the Terps are all but guaranteed to be headed to Detroit. Most projections have them playing Boston College. We should know early this evening.

The B1G did get 3 teams in the New Years Six though. So maybe that will help get them to NYC instead? Wisconsin getting into the Cotton Bowl might have been the difference-maker.

As expected, Terps will face Boston College in the Quick Lane Bowl on December 26th.

The Eagles beat UMass, Wagner, Buffalo, N.C. State, UConn, and Wake Forest this season.

It's Detroit.

Feel bad for the players. Can't imagine there will be much of anyone in the stands to watch them.

Bad deal for the university too, as they will certainly have to eat the cost of a lot of tickets they won't be able to sell.

There are still some aspects of bowl selection I will never understand. Like why 6-6 Maryland is going to Detroit while 6-6 Northwestern is going to New York. It would seem that for proximity's sake, and to sell more tickets to both games, you would have it the other way around. I'm sure there's a lot of backroom wheeling and dealing involved that we never hear about though.

DJ Durkin said that Boston College is a "tough, physical team...we've got our hands full" for Dec. 26 Quick Lane Bowl game.

As for the opponent, I'll have to look at advanced metrics more first, but BC's route to bowl-eligibility was pretty much the same as the Terps'....nice soft OOC slate, beat the bad teams, get drubbed by the good ones. On the surface, this looks like an evenly-matched game.

A trip to Detroit....that should help recruiting next year.

Only kidding, sort of, I guess 6-6 gets you a trip to the Motor City.

Any bowl in his 1st year is a victory... even if it's in Moosejaw....

247Sports: The estimated payouts teams will receive from bowl games

Lest you feel too bad for the Terps, they'll receive about $1.2 million from this game.

Not exactly.  Payouts go to the conference and are divided amongst all the teams after travel expenses and such for the participating teams are accounted for.  Plus there are some other considerations for the newer teams to the Big Ten including the Terps, but I don't know if those are beneficial (i.e. new schools get a bigger share for the first X years to cover their previous conference exit fees) or detrimental (i.e. more senior Big Ten schools get a larger share until new schools are "vested").
