Baltimore Orioles ‏@Orioles

The Orioles have selected the contract of LHP Dana Eveland from AAA Norfolk and have optioned INF Steve Tolleson to Norfolk.

Tolleson is kind of redundant with both Flaherty and Quintanilla on the roster, although he does a decent job against LHP.

Tolleson should have gone done instead of Pearce. As for Eveland, maybe the 3rd time is the charm, or maybe not.

They are just scared of a run down pen right now.
Always dumb to have a 3 man bench.

Especially considering Tolleson should be platooning with Betemit at 3b at the moment.

I'd be surprised if that lasts for more than a couple days.

One thing that they've been doing, which I really like, is using those last 2 or so spots on the 25-man roster as basically a revolving door for whatever they need in the very immediate term. Turn a weakness, the relative lack of depth and talent, into almost a strength, with de facto versatility by having 5 or 6 very different guys filling those final 2 spots at any point in time.

I agree - they've done well with this, particularly when the bullpen gets taxed by a blown start (see Gonzalez yesterday; recalling Eveland today). Poor Tolleson probably doesn't even clean out his locker at Norfolk anymore, lol.

Yea, I do not think they stay with 3 man bench long. Actually with the strain on the pen, probably the right thing right now. On the bright side if we keep DFA'ing Eveland enough someone might take him.

No, you make a good point. Personally, I think Tolleson should be platooning with Betemit at 3b which would make him more valuable than being the 4th man on the bench. Since Buck isn't really playing it that way, deciding to make Betemit a full time player, I agree that managing that 25th roster spot between position player and pitcher makes some sense.
