Good write up. We need to get Headley, and then platoon Meat and Reynolds. But with some of the rumblings out there, it's possible that we're basically trying to give away Reynolds.

I like the 1B idea in the short-term. It's unlikely we'll do better in the trade market. If we acquire a defensively capable 3B, it could well become a reality.

I tend to think that Reynolds can be more valuable than just as the smaller part (v LHP) of a platoon. I would definitely have Betemit in the lineup against righties, though, either at 3B (unless we add a better option), 1B, or DH.

I agree about Reynolds... if it were May I'd give Reynolds everyday ABs. But Reynolds is running out of time to salvage his season, and he almost certainly won't have his option picked up by us, so I'd rather see Betemit vs RHP than Reynolds for the last two months.

Truth is that until we add another piece, we're going to have Reynolds, Betemit, Davis, and Thome in the lineup most days. If we add either a LF, 3B, or even 1B then the equation changes. But unless Davis crashes and burns in LF (and while I don't think he's good, he's doing an adequate job out there so far, IMO), all of those guys are going to be in the lineup most days save for a day off once or twice a week for somebody to get Chavez or Tolleson in the lineup.
