Where are you a local?

Which bars are your favorite when downtown?

What about a random bar in another area?

In Frederick, I love Wags. 2-4-1 happy hour every day of the week, and 10-close. Awesome burgers and boardwalk style fries.

I celebrated my 21st birthday at Judge's Bench in Ellicott City, so I am always partial to that place although it's nothing special...decent rotation of beers on tap. Phoenix Emporium down the street has a better beer list although they're all bottles and cans. Great burgers there too.

I lived less than a mile from GL Shacks in Catonsville. Never really frequented it until I moved, but it's a solid neighborhood bar with decent food.

When downtown, I'm usually at Pickles before a game, but sometimes I'll go to Alewife. In Fed Hill I like Rowhouse and Bar Licorice. Nick's in Cross St Market for the coleslaw container beers. In Fells, Rye and Riptide. In Hampden/Remington, WC Harlan for a little speakeasy style joint.

When visiting friends in Westminster I always have to twist their arm to go somewhere other than BBW or GT, and that's usually Johansson's.

Anyone been to Mt Royal Tavern? Got a boner for that place and I've never been!

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Ellicott City:  My hometown, The Phoenix, my favorite bar, been drinking here since....well, a long time.  My name is on the wall.

O's pregame:  Used to be Camden Pub, but too crowded there.  Much prefer Quigley's, less crowded and I can annoy people on the juke box.

Never had a bad time at GL Shack's in Catonsville.

Fed Hill:  Cross St. Market or any place that isn't suffocated by bros

Fells:  Love a little hole in the wall called Leadbetters.  Also like Kooper's and Max's when it's not crowded

Don't drink in Canton enough.

As you can see, I like less crowded, divy places.

O'Donnell Pub was my spot when I lived in Canton in 2010-11.  I will admit it was better before the back was renovated though. Domestic bottles were usually less than 2 bucks.  I was barely around for the Cardinal but I enjoyed it there.

The best bar no one knows about is this little spot about a block from Max's.  Its got a white sign that says 'BAR' in black letters.  I don't even think it has a name. https://www.yelp.com/biz/bar-baltimore

Mama's is a must for me every time I'm home.

The guy who runs Quigley's is such a dickhead.  It would be a fantastic bar if not for him.

I have a no Fed Hill/Power Plant policy.  It's not my speed at all.  The only reason to go over there is for Abbey's.

Lucas always makes me hit the Severna Park taphouse when I visit.  It's pretty solid.  We get all hammered and then go make fun of the rednecks at Firehouse afterwards.

Sliders is our main local bar mostly due to the really good nightly specials.

Max's and The Wharf Rat in Fells.

Smaltimore is our main Canton bar. We've gone to O'Donnell's a few times for shuffle board too, chill place.

Also like Alewife, World of Beer, and the Taps Fill Station in the Mount Vernon Marketplace, which is a pretty cool place.

I think I found a hidden Orioles pregame gem.

B&O American Brasserie. About Charles and Fayette, in the Hotel Monaco. Had an hour to kill in between appointments downtown. Walked by, decided to stop in for a snack and a drink.

Fancy, but not douchey. More classy. For as nice as the small, upscale hotel bar was, I was shocked to see the happy hour menu.

$2 Bohs, if you're into that sort of thing. I am.
$3 local drafts, if you're into that sort of thing. I am.
$4 house wine, $5 house cocktails if you bring a date. My wife is the first to grab a drink a drink menu and order a $13 fruit filled God knows what, so this is more than welcome to me.
$8 appetizers that looked good. Lemon garlic wings. House made jerky and nuts. Charcuterie (lunchmeat cheese and crackers I think...I'm not fancy). Stout and cheaddar fondue, a few other things I can't remember.

Anyways...happy hour is 4:30-6:30 M-F. 2 and 3 dollar beers, and walk 10 minutes to the game. Or 4 and 5 dollar+ beers, long lines, and be accross the street? I'll take the walk.

As long as I can wear a t-shirt and hat indoors. Lol. Its a hotel bar. Can't think the dress code is outrageous,

Went there several times when I lived in Canton. Always nice and quiet, if that's what you were in the mood for.

My place in Canton was Rapscallions pub, but it closed not long after I moved (maybe due to the corresponding drop in business). I'd knock back Yuengling on draught like there was no tomorrow. It was literally right at the end of the alley from where I lived, so I didn't have to be publicly shamed when I stumbled my way home.

That's a solid place. Maybe I'll check it out again sometime soon. Kona has a very good happy hour as well, but not sure if it's in effect for O's games.

Anyway, what's up with you and the need to wear hats indoors?

I don't know. If a nice place asked me to take it off, I wouldn't care. If it's a nice place, I'd probably be dressed nicer than my ball game outfit anyway.

Seacrets though? They have sand on the floor. They serve slurpees. Its practically outdoors. Can probably justify wearing flip flops. But not a hat? It's just the pretentiousness of shitty night clubs that blows me away. Don't get me wrong. I love dive bars, hole in the wall places. I'm not pretentious myself and above a certain type of bar. I love going to Walt's Inn over in Canton sometimes for cheap drinks and drunk people doing karaoke. But shitty night clubs? Where they cram you in like a sardine, sweaty dudes bumping into you left and right, $9 drinks in a plastic cup, mile long lines for the bathroom, god awful music...The kids that go to those places can have it.

Now would I love to own a shitty night club? Hell Yeah! Because people are dumb and you make a fortune off them.

Agreed about the dude at Quigleys. He should have a gold mine because of the location but because he's such a douche, he gets next to no customers on non game days. He also pissed off the neighborhood association. Not a good move if you're trying to be a successful neighborhood bar Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Are we thinking of the same guy at Quigleys? Darker hair. Somewhat darker complexion?

I think he's bald? He might have dark hair and he has a darker complexion like olive skin dark. But I'm for sure talking about the owner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yea he seems a little off. I wouldn't call him a douche but he's definitely odd.

Lot of great spots in Canton.

Cardinal, Chasseur, Fork & Wrench, Huck's, O'Donnell, Knotty Pine (my favorite dive), Kisling's, Hudson St Stackhouse.  More I'm sure that I'm forgetting.

Fells also has a bunch of spots I like.  Wharf Rat, Cat's Eye, Rye, Alexander's Tavern, Bad Decision's.

I don't get over to Fed as much, but I like Little Havana and Bluegrass Tavern a lot.

Owl Bar and Brewer's Art's basement are both great spots in the Mt Vernon area.

I'll say this: B&O is Lucky Jim's favorite spot, as to the clientele.
