Rosenthal is reporting that Upton could be available if Zona is out of it.

Would you give up Machado or Bundy in a deal for him?

He has 3 years left on his contract...just under 40 million owed to him.

Yes, I would give up one of Machado or Bundy and he immediately becomes my #1 target if the DBacks are actually interested in trading him.

FWIW, Upton does have a limited no-trade clause.

I'd be shocked if we weren't on it, although being from the Hampton Roads area he may have kept us off to play closer to home.

He's not getting along with DBacks fans as they actively booed him the other night. Seems like a solid buy low candidate.

Maybe Machado, definitely not Bundy.

We don't appear to be on it(he is from virginia).

It will take a huge package to get him.

Not as huge as if you had called Arizona last year.

Give them their choice of Bundy or Machado and go from there.

Tough call for me.

Be great to add Upton and Headley in trades though. Huge defensive and offensive upgrades there.

I do think I lean towards Machado over Bundy.

Sign Greinke in offseason.

OTOH, you did just draft Gausman and finding that elite offensive player may become harder in this lower run environment and if you sign Greinke, you could be in good shape pitching wise.

Could trade HArdy and JJ in offseason for more pitching and second base prospect.

OF of Upton, Jones and Nick.

Machado and Headley on left side.

Greinke, Hammel, Chen and young pitchers left over.

Not too shabby.

Don't we already have a right fielder?

Like Nash on the Lakers, they'd make it work.

They can draw straws for all I care.

I wonder if you traded Bundy or Machado, If you would really have to add to the deal or if you do, are they just c type prospects?

I would not trade Machado for him. Possibly Bundy but not sure on that one either. I think Machado is a franchise type player at SS, and he's cheap for a few years when he does come up. Can't see trading that for Upton, although that's what it would take, most likely. Upton is a potential superstar and still 24 but he's making some money over the next few years and has underachieved, IMO, so far. Does he blossom within the next 3 years? Don't think I'd gamble Machado to find out.

I agree with everything you say here. Part of me thinks that Upton is just having a down year and D-Backs fans are really laying into him about it, which I think he's taking more to heart than he cares to admit. Possibly a change of scenery could do him some good if hard feelings are starting to sink in.

But no, I wouldn't gamble Machado or even Bundy on it.

Im just not sold on Upton being a Superstar or even a consistent All Star. Would still love to get him but giving up Machado or Bundy for him would make me nervous.

You do realize that he's 24 and has been in MLB since he was 19. Has posted OPS+ over 100 since he was 20...

I hear Upton is considered an "old 24"...

One thing to be wary of is that, on his BBRef comps, there isn't a single Hall-of-Fame player listed (other than Andruw Jones--maybe). There are, however, a lot of players who burned out relatively early or got hurt: Ruban Sierra, specifically, who is his #1 most-similar for ages 21-23.
